The Vermilion The Vermilion is UL Lafayette's student-run paper, produced weekly for UL students.

The Vermilion is the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's premier student-run newspaper since 1904 and houses university news, student opinion pieces, Louisiana Ragin' Cajun sports and more. Operated entirely by and for students, the Vermilion releases new issues every Wednesday and website content every day. The ideas shared via opinionated editorials and student columns do not necessarily reflect the ideas and opinions of the Vermilion. All current UL Lafayette students are welcome to send in responses, letters to the editor and opinion pieces to [email protected].

On Oct. 7, 2026, the United States Department of Homeland Security proposed heightened fees for F1 nonimmigrant students seeking to participate in Optional Practical Training (OPT), a temporary work authorization connected to a student’s field of study. This was with the intent to reduce the flow of cheap labor into the U.S. and lower the competition for American citizens in the job market.
