📚Graduate student edition📝
Meet Leilani Iem, our president!! Here is a little bit about her: I have so enjoyed my past 6 years at UL Lafayette! I initially graduate with my Bachelor's degree in Communicative Disorders in December 2020 and will be graduating with my Master's this May! During my past 2 years while in graduate school I have been so lucky to serve as the UL Lafayette NSSLHA Vice President and President which has truly been an honor. Getting to lead such an awesome group of students has been a highlight of my graduate experience! Another highlight was speaking at the 2022 ASHA Conference and being supporting by my fellow students and professors!
What sparked your interest in the field of speech pathology?
My love for speech-language pathology was initially sparked when I learned how many different individuals SLPs can work with across a variety of settings! Seeing that the options in the field were endless definitely contributed to why I wanted to enter the field since I knew I would never stop learning!
What specific fields are you interested in/passionate about in our scope of practice?
Currently I am interested heavily in the pediatric population including language disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and stuttering. I am also interested in continuing my experiences with gender-affirming voice therapy, diversity, and research!
What are your future plans after graduation?
After graduation I hope to complete my CFY and earn my CCC's!
It has truly been my pleasure serving on the NSSLHA Executive Board and I can't express how much I have learned from the experience and how many opportunities have been available to me because of it! Thank you to my entire Executive Board that has supported me throughout the way! Special shout out to McKenzi Bienvenue, my Vice President, who has been my rock, my right-hand man, and other half through it all! Thank you all, Leilani Iem signing out👋🏻
