UL Lafayette Office of First-Year Experience

The mission of the Office of First-year Experience (OFYE) is to help freshmen have a successful first-year college experience at UL Lafayette.

Freshman year is huge—for many of you it will be the first time to spend an extended time away from family and friends, which can be exhilarating or stomach-churning, sometimes both in alternating succession. The Office of First Year Experience is here to help you start your new life as a university student off right!

Hands-On Learning with the Healthcare Innovators LLC! 🚑

Our Healthcare Innovators LLC had an exciting visit from Acadian Companies during their class session, where students got a firsthand look at the important work they do in emergency services and healthcare.

Students had the opportunity to hear from Acadian team members about their various divisions, see the inside of an ambulance, and even try on some of the gear!

A huge thank you to Lindsay for speaking to the class about various career opportunities, Jayden for leading the tour, Mrs. Taylor Bourgeois, our Healthcare Innovators LLC instructor, and Peer Mentor Lauren Jones for helping coordinate such an engaging experience for our students.

And a special shoutout to Nyssa, one of our LLC students who also works with Acadian as an EMT — we love seeing our students learning and leading in their fields!

When life gives you lemons, make a difference! 🍋

Our Business Secrets LLC students hosted their Lemons for Life pop-up lemonade stand and raised over $600 for Miles Perret Cancer Services!

Huge thank you to Mr. Jonathan Shirley (LLC Instructor) and Katelyn (Peer Mentor) for guiding and supporting our students through this hands-on learning and service experience.

Major shoutout to our Business Secrets LLC students for their creativity, teamwork, and commitment to giving back to the community!

We can’t wait to see what they bring for their next business pop-up later this semester!

✨ LLC Spotlight! ✨

This year, we introduced a Community Engagement component to our Living Learning Communities (LLCs), and our students set the bar high!

Kicking off their very first semester, the LLCs came together to raise over $1,700 for Miles Perret Cancer Services (MPCS) during their LLC Change for Miles Challenge while also having the opportunity to earn volunteer hours.

Students showcased incredible leadership by creating their own marketing materials, organizing giveback nights, and their progress was tracked on a special leadership board where they could see their daily impact.

A huge thank you to Avery and Addi from MPCS for planning and the opportunity to collaborate, Ruben Henderson for his service and introduction as an MPCS board member, and Matika Holmes, Associate Director of First-Year Programs, for leading and supporting this meaningful initiative.

We’re so proud of our LLC students for starting their first semester with purpose, compassion, and community! 🤟

Get up Cajuns, it’s GAMEDAY!!📣 Today is our first home game vs. Rice. Come out to the Freshmen First Down Tailgate for free food, drinks, and music! Get there early to get a tshirt too🔥 Be sure to bring your Cajun Card to take part in the free fun. Then cheer on the Cajuns in the newly renovated Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium!! 🤟🤟

Today is the last day of Cajun Craze💔, but don’t worry there’s still free events coming up soon and throughout the semester. Stay tuned and give and a follow if you haven’t already. We’ve had so much fun with you the past two weeks🫶

You’ve (almost) made it through your first week of classes!🎉 We’re nearing the end of Cajun Craze and we have had the best time welcoming everyone back to campus. But don’t worry- we aren’t done yet!🤟

Tonight is 🔥RAGIN’ ROAR🔥 which is one of our most loved traditions at UL! It’s a pep rally hosted by to kick off the football season and this year it’s at the BRAND NEW Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium🏈 Be a part of history and be one of the first people to step inside👀

Shuttles will available from the Student Union or park at the stadium.
