"The biggest misconception is that everybody in criminal justice is going to be a cop," says Jada Hector, visiting assistant professor of criminal justice. "There’s so much more out there than just being a cop or working for the FBI. The paths in criminal justice are limitless."

As a licensed professional counselor, Hector has seen firsthand the intersection of crime and mental health as she's worked in courtrooms, served on crisis response teams, and partnered with community mental health agencies.

Through courses like CJUS 311: Crime & Mental Health and CJUS 420: Drugs & Crime, Hector shares her mental health expertise with students in the online criminal justice program, offered online and on campus, helping them understand the psychological forces behind criminal behavior and exposing them to a range of career opportunities in our justice system.

Attend or present at the UL Lafayette 2026 Undergraduate Research Conference Nov. 13-14!

Registration to attend and/or present at the UL Lafayette 2026 Undergraduate Research Conference is now open. It will be held Nov. 13-14, in the Student Union.

The conference will feature presentations and discussions showcasing the amazing research projects of undergraduate students.

Students can present full projects, partial projects, or project proposals in the form of an oral presentation (10 minutes), a lightning talk (three minutes), a poster presentation, scholar and athlete (two extra minutes to describe the value of athleticism) and/or a creative activity. Students can present in two categories at no extra cost.

The registration fee to attend and/or present is $30 and includes conference admission for both days and the Saturday brunch. For an additional $10, you can register to attend the dinner and Collaboration Mixer with regional companies that offer student internships on Friday evening.

The conference is open to the public and ALL undergraduate students (in-state or out-of-state).

Conference attendees can learn about a wide range of topics while supporting their peers in their academic endeavors. Join the University in recognizing and celebrating the hard work and dedication of talented undergraduate students.

Sigma Tau Delta - Lambda Zeta hosts recruitment days on Monday and Tuesday, October 5 - 6. This includes a film screening of the 1954 animated Animal Farm on Tuesday from 3 - 5 pm in Griffin 315 to celebrate banned books week. Anyone can join Lambda Zeta regardless of their major if they meet eligibility requirements. See the flyers here!
