Alumni Spotlight: Sammy Lazare

From student to instructor, Sammy Lazare has come full circle!

An Opelousas native, Sammy studied Civil Surveying & Mapping at SoLAcc’s Lafayette Campus and now teaches Industrial Maintenance and Aviation Maintenance Tech at our New Iberia Campus.

Reflecting on his time as a student, Sammy recalls the smaller class sizes and the dedication of instructors who truly wanted every student to succeed. “The instructors cared about your education and really wanted you to succeed,” he says. “And the affordable tuition made pursuing my goals possible.”

“Soak in all the knowledge you can from your instructors,” he says. “And take advantage of job fairs and workshops, those opportunities make a difference.”

When he’s not teaching, Sammy is an avid runner and completed the Louisiana Marathon, proof that perseverance pays off both in and out of the classroom.

We’re proud to call you part of the SoLAcc family, Sammy!

Today, we pause to honor the brave individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Memorial Day calls us to remember the deep cost of our freedom. We hold in our hearts the memory of the courageous service members who laid down their lives to protect our homes, our families, and our future. Their profound devotion to duty and country leaves an undeniable mark on our community, reminding us of the true meaning of service.

As we reflect on their selflessness, we extend our deepest gratitude and comfort to the families who carry the weight of their absence every single day. We stand together in quiet reverence, ensuring that their names, their legacies, and their sacrifices remain forever unforgotten in South Louisiana.
