Georgian Court University presented Honorary Doctorates of Humane Letters to Joe Piscopo and Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez during GCU’s 115th Annual Commencement Ceremonies!

Joe Piscopo served as the Undergraduate Commencement Speaker, sharing reflections on the challenges and successes of his life, lessons learned along the way, and his pride in New Jersey. He also surprised everyone with an impromptu Frank Sinatra-inspired performance, reimagined with a New Jersey and GCU twist.

Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez served as the Graduate Commencement Speaker, addressing students first in Spanish and then in English. He compared Commencement to writing a book and encouraged graduates to remain grounded in their beliefs and values, just as he has throughout his own life journey, while advocating for those less fortunate and working to improve the lives of others.

Georgian Court University’s 115th Annual Commencement was a day of celebration, reflection, and pride.

The festivities began with a special live broadcast of the Joe Piscopo Show from Georgian Court’s historic Mansion on AM970 and continued with the traditional procession, inspiring remarks from university leaders and student speakers, and addresses from Undergraduate Commencement Speaker Joe Piscopo and Graduate Commencement Speaker Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, who both received honorary degrees.

“I see a class defined not just by achievement, but by resilience, purpose, and heart,” said Interim University President Dr. Eugene J. Cornacchia. “You have leaned on your community, built bonds that will last a lifetime, and discovered who you are and what you care about most.”
