HACC Paralegal Studies Program

HACC Paralegal Studies Program HACC offers an associate degree and certificate in paralegal studies. PARALEGALS MAY NOT PROVIDE LEGAL SERVICES TO THE PUBLIC, EXCEPT AS PERMITTED BY LAW.

The Paralegal Studies Program is a HACC Career Program and is approved by the American Bar Association. It is designed to prepare students to work in private, government, and corporate law offices under the supervision of an attorney. Paralegal courses are offered ONLY at the Harrisburg and Lancaster campuses, where complete Pennsylvania law libraries are housed; however, general education/core co

urses can be taken at any campus or online. Paralegal courses are taught by full-time and adjunct faculty members who have at least two years of practical experience in the area taught. The curriculum is designed to prepare students to conduct client interviews and legal research, write legal memoranda and briefs, perform administrative tasks in the law office, and prepare legal documents related to litigation, estates, bankruptcy, real estate, and domestic relations.

The successful candidate will support and manage a wide range of tasks related to both commercial and residential real estate closings, including: completing assigned closing duties, reviewing and preparing draft closing and loan documents, creating title policies, ensuring the accuracy of closing disclosures and settlement statements, and managing post-closing activities and file organization. The employee in this position is responsible for performing legal support to the IV-D Attorney in administrative Court Unit functions, paternity, and child support matters and hearings. Work is performed with considerable independence in a high-paced environment under the supervision of the IV-D Attorney. Duties primarily include analyzing legal matters, drafting legal documents, performing legal research, reviewing reports, responding and collaborating with the public, staff and other agencies. Ensures case management and legal proceedings are in adherence to the standards and laws prescribed by Federal, State and County authorities.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Graduation from an American Bar Association approved school with a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Legal Assisting/Paralegal.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
