“We have the power to change our communities and our world.”

As a 2026 graduate of the Mechanical Engineering Technology program at Thaddeus Stevens College, Renae Ratchford pursued their degree as a single parent, returning to the classroom after nearly a decade away in hopes of building a better future for themselves and their daughter.

Balancing family and a full-time education, Renae leaned on the support of community and classmates every step of the way. One of their favorite memories is the first time their class worked through a challenging problem side by side at the whiteboard, fully collaborating as a team.🩶

It’s a story we hear time and time again as we do work aligned with our mission: open doors to education, create an environment for success, and watch how students reach their potential.

Precision was the focus of this year’s Computer Integrated Machining capstone projects.

Using the technical skills they’ve developed at , students designed and manufactured a custom bulldog-shaped tool changer, with everyone contributing a part while working within tight tolerance fitments, highlighting the accuracy required in the machining industry.⚙️

Students also collaborated on a detailed Dodson clock, with each student responsible for building at least two components. Students utilized every piece of equipment in the shop, showcasing the depth of experience they’ve gained throughout the program.

Projects like these demonstrate the applied, career-focused learning that prepares our students to excel in advanced manufacturing after graduation.

The Spirit of Alumni Achievement Award honors a lifelong commitment to excellence, and this year’s recipient embodies that standard: Martin “Marty” Christian.

A 1991 graduate of the Automotive Technology program at Thaddeus Stevens College, Marty began his career as a mechanic before discovering a passion for teaching. Since returning in 2010, he has played a key role in curriculum while mentoring the next generation of skilled professionals. 🚘

Marty is known for building “thinkers,” an approach that reflects the influence of his own mentors who showed what it means to invest fully in student success and program excellence. He exemplifies the College’s mission, cultivating graduates who aren’t just career ready, but prepared to drive positive change in industry and community.

Congratulations, Marty, and thank you for the lasting impact you continue to have.

This Memorial Day, honors and remembers the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage and selflessness have protected the freedoms and opportunities we’re privileged to pursue every day, including the ability to learn and build brighter futures.

As we spend time with family and community, we pause in gratitude for those who gave everything in service to others. Today and every day, we remember and honor their legacy.

At our recent Alumni Awards Banquet, we were proud to recognize Frank Gaffney, a 2012 Plumbing Technology graduate, as the recipient of the Alumni Citizenship Award that honors his community leadership and service.

Since graduating, Frank has continued to create opportunity for others. From mentoring young athletes as a high school football coach to co-founding a landscaping business with his wife rooted in providing meaningful work and second chances, Frank embodies the mission of Thaddeus Stevens College far beyond campus.

His impact is a reminder that education is not only about careers; it’s about empowering people to strengthen communities and create pathways for others to succeed.

Congratulations, Frank, on this well-deserved recognition. Your story continues to inspire the next generation of students to believe in what’s possible.

House of Champ may be a campus store, but it’s also where some students build career-ready skills and help bring school spirit to life. 🐾

From helping run daily operations to contributing new ideas for merchandise, students play an important role in shaping House of Champ while applying what they’ve learned in the classroom.

For students like Andie Fox, during her second year as a Business Administration student, House of Champ has been an opportunity to strengthen skills in customer service, merchandising, retail operations, and teamwork.

This kind of experiential learning is a core part of how we create opportunity, preparing students to thrive in the workforce.

Shop the merch on Main Campus, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or at the link in the comments.

Some of the most meaningful details in a home are the ones that combine practicality with artistry. 🏠

As our home construction project reached its final days of the school year, students from several programs added the finishing touches that brought both function and character.

The basement features a standout bar with two custom bar tops created by hand in our Advanced Welding & Fabrication Technology lab. The students welded, polished, and added patina to create this one-of-a-kind centerpiece in the room.

Students from the Graphic Communications & Printing Technology program designed and installed custom wallpaper throughout, bringing bold visual character and craftsmanship to life.

In the kitchen, laundry room, mudroom entrance, and bathrooms, students from the Cabinetmaking & Wood Technology program planned, designed, built, and installed custom cabinetry entirely from scratch, transforming raw materials into finished pieces that will be part of the home for years to come.

We’re incredibly proud of the creativity and skill our students poured into this project. It’s the small details that make a house feel like home, and these students helped do exactly that.

Progress happens when industry leaders and educators come together to create new opportunities for students – it's the best way we fulfill our mission to create opportunity for education! 🦺

This year, we’re proud to recognize Nate Brenneman, Human Resources Director at Allan Myers Inc., as the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award.

Throughout his career in heavy construction, Nate recognized a critical gap: there was no clear higher education pathway connecting students to opportunities in heavy infrastructure construction. Instead of accepting that reality, he helped create change.

Working alongside leadership from Allan Myers and Thaddeus Stevens College, Nate played a critical role in launching our Civil Engineering Construction Technology program, helping open doors for students pursuing careers in a growing and essential industry.

His vision and partnership have helped expand opportunities for students and ensure our education remains aligned with workforce needs.

Congratulations, Nate, and thank you for your commitment to our students and mission.
