The Government Department at Franklin & Marshall Established in 1928, the Government Department at F&M prepares students for active citizenship and public service.

With faculty members who are exceptional scholars and teachers, the Government Department at F&M offers one of the most popular majors on campus. The Government major combines intellectual rigor with practical experience in order to equip students for lives of service and accomplishment. Government alumni are leaders in politics and public affairs, as well as in law, business, and a variety other

Politics, Public Opinion, and the Governmental Response to Natural Disasters

Saundra K. Schneider and William G. Jacoby

To what extent does the American public feel sympathy for victims of recent natural disasters? How do citizens think the government should address victims' needs? Professors Schneider and Jacoby use high-quality survey data to address these questions, and they find that while much of the American public shows concern for the victims, preferences regarding how the government ought to respond are heavily influenced by various political factors.
