Dear DCCCD family,

Each day, we are learning more about the widespread impact caused by tornadoes that struck our community last Sunday. Our thoughts and prayers continue for everyone who has been touched by this devastation. While none of our campuses were damaged by the storms, we are hurting for those in our community who were directly impacted, especially our DCCCD students and employees.

Our college communities have mobilized to provide a variety of resources to students and employees, such as food, mental health counseling, employment assistance, learning materials and clothing. Faculty are also working with affected students to provide instructional assistance, additional time to complete assignments and encouragement. Dual-credit staff and faculty are working with our DISD Early College High School partners to provide equipment and extended class time to those students impacted by the storms.

Many of you have asked how you can directly help with the relief efforts. A fund has been created within the DCCCD Foundation that will help DCCCD employees who have been affected by the tornadoes. To donate, please visit this site: justgiving.com/campaign/2019tornado.

For a full list of relief activities and resources, please visit this site for more information: dcccd.edu/2019tornado.

We will provide updates as additional information becomes available. In the meantime, please keep all those impacted in your thoughts and prayers as the rebuilding efforts continue.

Thank you,
Joe May

DCCCD wants to do everything possible to help those affected by the tornado.

Job Fair Offers Opportunity for and Their Spouses

There is an increasing need to help the thousands of service members who are transitioning to the Texas economy.

NPower, a nonprofit housed at the Bill J. Priest Institute, wants to help veterans and their spouses find training and jobs in technology.

If you know of a veteran or a veteran spouse, please invite them to the Valuing Veterans and Innovation Job Fair, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, at the Verona Villa, 6591 Dallas Parkway, Frisco, Texas.

Veterans and spouses of veterans are to bring copies of their resume and a great attitude and wear business attire.

How do we affect and effect change in our justice system? There are many ways we can come together. One of those ways is by working with members of the law enforcement community as well as community activists in efforts to foster better understanding and education on matters of fairness and justice with respect to the judicial system and cooperative policing. Next week, I will have a conversation about with The LA County Chiefs of Police Association in partnership with Orange and San Diego Counties.
