Join Susan Dicklitch Nelson, Ph.D., Professor of Government and Rev. Liz Edman ’85 for a live Faculty Feature “Q***r Theology meets LGBTQI+ Global Reality: A public dialogue about the future of LGBTQI+ rights in the 21st Century”, co-sponsored by the LGBTQ Alumni Council and the Alumni Association Board.
Q***rphobic religious rhetoric is the biggest drag on the movement for LGBTQ+ justice and takes a tremendous toll on q***r bodies and souls. Rev Liz Edman ’85 and Professor Susan Dicklitch-Nelson, Ph.D. will discuss what activists realize keenly: that the cutting edge of the global LGBTQ+ movement must include perspectives of faith and religion. They will explore the growing impact of Q***r theology – proclamations that are essential for q***r spiritual health, will strengthen faith communities, and can bolster a political movement that combats anti-q***r religious rhetoric in halls of government throughout the world. The work of the F&M Global Barometers, which measure the extent to which countries are human rights protecting or persecuting of LGBTQ+ people in 204 countries and territories, will provide the backdrop for the discussion about the actual human rights climate experienced by q***r people globally.
An Episcopal priest, political strategist, and the author of Q***r Virtue, Liz Edman is an internationally recognized leader in the q***r faith movement, helping Christian communities’ chart prophetic trajectories well beyond mere inclusion of LGBTQ people.
