Today marks the 25th anniversary of the premiere of the acclaimed HBO miniseries Band of Brothers. ♠️

Based on a book by Stephen Ambrose, the series chronicles the efforts of Franklin & Marshall alumnus Maj. Richard D. Winters ’41, portrayed by actor Damian Lewis, and his parachute infantry company in the 101st Airborne Division from D-Day to their occupation of Berchtesgaden during World War II.

F&M recognizes the legacy of Winters with an annual award for a student who has exhibited the strength of character, the quality of perseverance, and the skill of leadership that defined his life.

This summer, Franklin & Marshall College students conducted research at Mennonite Life, an Anabaptist history organization in Lancaster County, as part of the Reckoning With Lancaster project.

Supported by a Humanities for All Times grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Phase Three of the project had student participants exploring the people, places, and experiences that illuminate Lancaster’s evolving relationship with immigrants and migration.

Supervising were faculty fellows Giovanna Faleschini Lerner, professor of Italian and film and media, and Anne Stachura, teaching professor and coordinator of the Spanish community-based learning program. F&M alumnus Roger Avila-Vidal ’22 and Matt Johnson of CWS - Lancaster Immigration & Refugee Program provided guidance as community fellows for the project.
