As we begin Black History Month, Langston University would like to take this opportunity to honor the people, places, and events that struggled against adversity to achieve universal rights for all people. This month, we will focus inwards on the home state where LU is located. African American history in Oklahoma is often unrepresented in the general discussion of history, but it has had an enormous influence and made meaningful contributions to societal trends and traditions that are current today for many Oklahomans. Every day, we will highlight what makes our history in Oklahoma so special.
