A good fade starts with understanding the shape of the head.
At Modern Male Barber Academy, one of our instructors is showing a student how the occipital bone can influence where a drop fade should sit.
If that area is especially prominent, taking the fade too low can create the appearance of extra weight.
In that situation, keeping the fade slightly above the bone may create a cleaner result.
If the head shape allows it, a light drop can help maintain a smooth transition around the ear.
The lesson is simple:
Do not force the same fade placement onto every client.
Read the head shape first.
