In late September, we came together to celebrate our College of Arts & Sciences students at the annual Keith and Thyra Thomson Honors Convocation! The event recognized student achievements, featured a great performance by the Happy Jacks, and welcomed several wonderful speakers. Thanks to everyone who joined us in celebrating all that our A&S students are accomplishing!

Support the Next Generation of Makers!

Support our Visual Arts students as they develop important vocational, professional, and entrepreneurial skills as Modern Atelier: Master Craftsman Apprentices!

Modern Atelier: Master Craftsman is a faculty-led professional apprenticeship initiative that provides University of Wyoming students and recent graduates with paid, mentored experience completing real-world projects in fabrication, restoration, design, and public art. Apprentices participate in every aspect of the business of making, from project planning, estimating, budgeting, and client communication to design development, fabrication, problem-solving, installation, and final delivery.

The program bridges an important gap between learning technical skills as a student and becoming a working professional responsible for real clients, budgets, deadlines, and outcomes. Apprentices gain not only hands-on making skills, but also the confidence, experience, and professional responsibility needed to build sustainable careers after graduation.

Your contribution directly supports these emerging artisans and craftspeople by helping provide meaningful, paid apprenticeship opportunities. Get your tickets! The Buchanan Center Special Events presents 2025 Grammy nominees Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter of The War and Treaty, who will perform in the Arts and Sciences Auditorium on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m.

The husband-and-wife duo create music that blends soul, gospel, blues and country. In addition to two Grammy nominations, they have also been recognized by the Recording Academy, the Country Music Association, the Academy of Country Music and the Americana Music Association.

Dean Turpen knows ball. (Or does he?)

We’re embracing this year’s Giving Day theme, “It’s Giving," by putting the Dean’s Gen Z vocabulary to the test. A&S Marketing and Communications Intern Bliss Bonner puts him through the quiz to see just how fluent he really is.

Spoiler alert: He didn’t pass the quiz, but we give him an A+ for confidence. ✅

Congratulations to UW Music faculty John Fadial and Jiwon Han on the recent release of their performance of Sonatas by Richard Strauss and Ottorino Respighi! The record went live on Apple Music, iTunes, Prestomusic, and other platforms on Friday, Oct. 2.

Fadial, professor of violin at UW, has toured as a U.S. Artistic Ambassador and has served as Concertmaster of multiple operas, festivals, and orchestras around the U.S. and Europe. He was also a Grammy semifinalist in 2007 in the Chamber Music Performance category.

Han, an assistant professor of piano at UW, appeared as a soloist with the Korean Philharmonic Orchestra for his debut performance at the age of eight. Since then, he has performed on stages around the world, claiming a long list of awards.

Join us in celebrating UW faculty member Paul Bergstraesser's debut novel, "The Less Said," on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 4 p.m. with a reading and book launch. The novel is an end-of-life story featuring P—, a man diagnosed with a terminal illness, and the events of his final celebration of life.

Bergstraesser has taught creative writing and literature at UW since 2007. His writing has appeared in publications including the Barcelona Review, Portland Review, Another Chicago Magazine and American Journal of Poetry, and he has recieved a National Endowment for the Arts prose fellowship.
