For the last two days, the Robert R. Rose, Jr. Voir Dire Competition tested College of Law students on their jury selection skills. The team of Courtney Holmes and Hogan Smith took the top spot. Carson Parker and Saber Smith were the runners-up.

The competition relies on a large group of volunteers organized by Marcia Shanor and the Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association. Justice John Fenn, Judge Robin Cooley, and Bob Rose judged the final round. Several attorneys provided coaching and judged earlier rounds. People from throughout the community volunteered as jurors. (That’s right, people VOLUNTEERED for jury duty.) Professor Melissa Alexander and students Ryan Bainter, Shoshana Sangros, Peri Hennigar, and Laeona Frank provided logistical support.

Congratulations to all of the competitors, and thank you to all the volunteers.

Last week members of University of Wyoming College of Law’s Estate Planning and Probate Clinic joined members of the Southeast Wyoming Estate Planning Council for their periodic meeting. Faculty Director Mario Rampulla, Student Director Laeona Frank, and Legal Assistant Hannah Brin all talked about the Clinic and its impact in the community. Sundance Wicks, Head Coach of the University of Wyoming’s Men’s Basketball Team was the warm-up speaker. 🤠 He’s a hard act to follow, but the Clinic did a nice job. Thanks for the SWEPC and Brett Befus for including College of Law students in this wonderful event.

It was standing room only as many members of the Class of 2026 gathered at the Wyoming Supreme Court to be sworn in as the newest members of the Wyoming Bar. The state and federal bench and the Wyoming State Bar did a wonderful job welcoming these attorneys to the profession. Kennedy “KiKi” Templeton delivered the response of the admittees.

Congratulations to all of our new attorneys (both in Wyoming and elsewhere)! We are grateful that you spent your law school years with us and excited to watch your careers develop.

A big congratulations to two UW law students for the impact they are having in the digital assets and blockchain space.

First, earlier this week, Shane Forry (3L) testified before the Wyoming Legislature’s Select Committee on Blockchain, Financial Technology and Digital Innovation. Shane talked about his research on the law surrounding automated license plate readers and other technology used to track vehicles. Some of his testimony was reported in the Cowboy State Daily.

Second, earlier this semester, Nicholas Allen (3L) argued the first digital asset case to come before the Wyoming Supreme Court. The case CryptoFed DAO, LLC v. Gray presented the question of whether tokens are investment contracts that must be registered as securities. Working as an intern for the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office, Nicholas wrote the brief and argued the case for the state.

Good job Shane and Nicholas!
