🔬 Data coming soon!
Our team from the Sports Nutrition & Performance Bioenergetics Lab just got back from an incredible weekend in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, collecting field data at the Run Rabbit Run 50-and 100-mile ultra!

Four of our incredible student researchers (3 grad students, Kaitlyn, Lincoln, and Grecia + 1 undergrad, Yasmine) put in countless hours with minimal sleep running participants through a massive testing battery: from cognitive testing and body composition to blood draws, and detailed dietary logs.

We’re diving into the data now to look at the effects of creatine monohydrate supplementation on performance, cognitive function, and recovery in 50-mile and 100-mile trail runners.

Huge thanks to the runners who gave their time (and blood!) right before and after tackling 50–100 miles, and to the race directors for letting us set up shop. Stay tuned for the results!

The University of Wyoming–Division of Kinesiology and Health was well represented at the 2026 Rocky Mountain American College of Sports Medicine (RMACSM) Annual Meeting at Colorado State University. Students and faculty shared research examining person-specific experiences with exercise while connecting with researchers and students from across the region.

The RMACSM meeting also provided an opportunity for students and faculty to connect outside of the poster sessions. The group photo captures the collaborative and community-focused environment of the regional meeting and the opportunity for students to build relationships with colleagues from across the region.

Maylee Potas presented research titled “Exploring Person-Specific Associations Regarding Exercise Duration, Intensity, and Exertion with Recalled Affect.” Her poster examined how individuals differed in the relationships between characteristics of their exercise sessions and their recalled affective experiences.

Anna Groth presented “Exploring Person-Specific Associations Between Readiness to Exercise Domains and Session Exertion.” Her work explored person-specific relationships between different dimensions of readiness to exercise and perceived exertion during exercise sessions, highlighting the variability that can exist across individuals.

UW-DKH Makes Strong Showing at 2026 NASPSPA Annual Meeting

The University of Wyoming–Division of Kinesiology (UW-DKH) was well represented at the 2026 North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity (NASPSPA) Annual Meeting, held June 18–20 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Our faculty, current students, and alumni made significant contributions to the conference program.

Isaac Mason, a first-year master’s student, presented his first-ever verbal research presentation at an international conference. His talk, titled “Adaptive Visual Fixation Subserving Successful Basketball Shooting,” marked an impressive milestone in his academic career. Isaac is pictured with his mentor, Dr. Zhu.

Dr. Shaochen (Shawn) Huang, a UW-DKH alumnus and now a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the School of Health Promotion and Kinesiology at Texas Woman’s University, delivered a verbal presentation on his research examining the usage of perceptual information in the maintenance of rhythmic coordination movements. He is pictured with his doctoral mentor, Dr. Zhu.

Jimmy Bautista, another UW-DKH alumnus and currently a doctoral student in the Department of Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sport Studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, presented a poster on his ongoing research in physical activity. He is shown with Dr. Zhu, who was reviewing his poster during the session.

The conference also provided a welcome opportunity for current and former UW-DKH graduate students to reconnect. A group photo, taken by Dr. Zhu, captures the spirit of camaraderie and continued scholarly impact of the UW-DKH community.
