Creative Media Institute New Mexico State University’s Creative Media Institute (CMI) offers the Bachelor of Creative Media degree. Theory and practice are integrated at every step.

CMI is a dynamic cross-disciplinary program that prepares students for the 21st century in Digital Filmmaking and Animation & Visual Effects The CMI curriculum focuses on the art, craft, and business of storytelling. Our students choose one area of emphasis, but they study all aspects of digital filmmaking and digital arts, whether they are aspiring writers, directors, cinematographers, animators. Students manipulate text, sound, images, and cinema using industry-standard technology.CMI houses a state of the art digital projection system screening room, post-production lab, animation lab, and production space.

Have you ever wanted to be in a movie? Here’s your chance! 🎥

We are hosting an OPEN CASTING CALL for community members interested in being part of upcoming student film productions!

📅 Saturday, September 19
⏰10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
📍Milton Hall, NMSU

CMI is building an Actors Database to help our student filmmakers connect with local talent for upcoming productions filming later this fall. Whether you have acting experience or you’re completely new to it, we’d love to meet you!

Alumni Spotlight 🎥

A huge congratulations to CMI alumna Jenn Garcia (Class of 2016) on being selected as one of only six filmmakers nationwide for the Warner Bros. Discovery Access x HBO Production Management Program.

Jenn was the only New Mexican selected for this incredible opportunity, where she joined production professionals from across the country for advanced training, mentorship, and networking with HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery executives.

Since graduating from CMI, Jenn has built an impressive career producing and production managing films throughout the Southwest. Her credits include National Anthem (Hulu), Frybread Face and Me (Netflix), Pozole (Showtime), along with work on The Smashing Machine (A24) and Preparation for the Next Life (Amazon MGM).

We love seeing our alumni doing amazing things and representing both CMI and New Mexico on a national stage. Congratulations, Jenn! We are so proud of you and can't wait to see what you do next.

Production Alert 🎬: Sit Down follows an aspiring stand-up comedian as he struggles to cope with the loss of a friend.

Produced through the Creative Media Institute, the film featured the collaboration of four faculty members, Department Head Amy Lanasa, Dr. Cherie Saulter, Nathan Lefever, and Mitch Fowler, and more than 20 students, recent graduates, and alumni working both behind the scenes and on screen.

🎉 Congratulations to CMI alumnus Eduardo Diaz!

Eduardo has been selected for the Gotham EDU Career Development Program, earning one of just seven spots nationwide in the Narrative Filmmaker Track.

The Gotham's eight-week virtual program connects emerging filmmakers with leading industry professionals through mentorship, workshops, curated sessions, and pitch feedback.

Participants are selected for one of six specialized tracks, including Narrative Filmmaker, Documentary Filmmaker, Television/Episodic Creator, Entrepreneurship in Media, Executive Leadership and Ambassador, and the Sidney Poitier Initiative for Multi-Hyphenates.

Past speakers and mentors have included professionals from Netflix, MGM, MACRO, UTA, ColorCreative, NBCUniversal, Blumhouse, NEON, SFFILM, Kinema, WILLA, and other leading organizations in film and television.

Congratulations, Eduardo, on this outstanding achievement! We can't wait to see what's next.
