Counseling and Educational Psychology - NMSU The department offers the following degrees:

Doctorate (Ph.D.)

The department of Counseling & Educational Psychology promotes education and human development across the life span by providing graduate training in direct provision of counseling and psychological services, research, and teaching. in Counseling Psychology - accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) following the 'scientist-practitioner model.'

Specialist in Education (Ed.S.

) in School Psychology - accredited by the National Association of School Psychologist (NASP) following the 'scientist-practitioner model.'

Masters of Arts Degree (MA) - accredited in mental health counseling by the Council for Accrediting of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). This Professional Counselor Program trains people to counsel in mental health and school settings. Master of Arts Degree (Distance Ed MA) - This Specialty is intended to help professionals in a variety of settings acquire knowledge and skills to provide guidance that enhances human development, relationships and success. It is not intended to prepare persons for professional licensure in counseling (e.g., licensed- professional counselor, school counselor, psychologist, social worker), and is not accredited by CACREP, NASP or APA. Clinical Psychopharmacology Program - Offered by the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology and the Department of Special Education at New Mexico State University in collaboration with the Southwestern Institute for the Advancement of Psychotherapy. Minor in Counseling and Educational Psychology - The CEP Minor is for students preparing to enter one of the helping professions such as psychology, education, social work, criminal justice, nursing, and family and consumer sciences. It provides a strong foundation for those students who want to enhance their human relations skills in order to be more successful in their work and relationships.
