Congratulations to Michael Gittings ’69, who recently received the Los Alamos National Laboratory Medal – the laboratory’s highest honor – recognizing his decades of contributions to computational science, engineering and national security. 🥇
A mechanical engineering alumnus, Gittings is renowned for developing innovative multiphysics modeling methods and hydrodynamics codes that have been used across industry, academia and the Nuclear Security Enterprise for decades.
In 2019, Gittings and his late wife established the Michael and June Gittings Endowed Chair in NMSU College of Engineering.
Four years later, he created the Michael Gittings Student Success Fund to support two recognized student organizations within the College of Engineering, the Society for Women Engineers (SWE) and Women in STEM (WiSTEM).
Last year, he established the Michael Gittings Engineering Student Support Fund to help and encourage engineering students who have experienced a gap in their undergraduate education to re-enroll in the College of Engineering.
Mike’s legacy is a testament to the power of innovation, perseverance and giving back. ✨ Through his generosity, he is creating opportunities for current and future Aggies to pursue their education and achieve their goals.
