We are a Winning Team!!

Please congratulate our very own NMSU Model United Nations (MUN) Team on an incredibly successful National Model UN Conference in New York last week.

The team received the highest recognition – the Outstanding Delegation Award!!

Our team of 10 students simulated the delegation of Barbados on six different UN committees: General Assembly 1 (Disarmament and International Security), General Assembly 2 (Economic and Financial), General Assembly 3 (Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural), Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC; one of five regional UN commissions, focusing on economic development and cooperation in Latin America), Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT; aiming to prevent the global spread of nuclear weapons and to promote disarmament), and UN Environmental Assembly (UNEA; the highest UN decision-making body on the environment, setting priorities for global environmental policy).

The team included five returning participants from last year (our MUN President Jasmine Padilla, Vice President Ruben Morales Jr., Secretary Gracie Thomas, Treasurer Will Whitworth, and Landon Gallegos) and five new members: Stephanie (Ruby) Arce, Marissa Bencomo, Sofia Gonzalez, Bogi Szalai, and Trenton White.
The students are undergraduates in different majors, including Political Science, Economics, International Business, English, JPPL, and Sociology. Dr. Sabine Hirschauer is the current NMSU MUN advisor.

Again, Congratulations – for a job well done! Thank you for all your hard work. So super proud of you!!
