It takes a whole team, and our Hospitality students are directly involved!

Working alongside UNLV Athletics (UNLV Athletics), these students assist with the production of pregame and game-day meals. Through this hands-on partnership, students master essential industry skills, including revenue management, inventory control, food sanitation, and just-in-time service.

Las Vegas is widely recognized as the Culinary Capital of the World, and Gabriel Rodriguez is maximizing every opportunity the city has to offer.

Building on a foundation at his family’s Georgia restaurant, La Cazuela, Gabriel made strides in his craft by staging twice at Guy Savoy (Guy Savoy Las Vegas) inside Caesars Palace — an establishment that recently earned a highly coveted Michelin Star.

“Being part of the incredible team at Restaurant Guy Savoy was an amazing experience. I learned so much during my time there, and I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned with others at UNLV,” shares the UNLV Hospitality Management sophomore.

Moving to Las Vegas and attending UNLV was a major sacrifice, but the Georgia native has made the most of the opportunities presented to him. His end goal? Taking those master-level skills and classroom knowledge back home to step up and lead the family business.

We are thrilled to share that UNLV Hospitality alumnae and sister duo, Sally Kawa ‘90 and Kari Kawa-Harding ‘89, have received the prestigious James Beard Award in the America’s Classics: Midwest category. (James Beard Foundation)

Sally and Kari are third-generation co-owners of Johnny’s Cafe (Johnny's Cafe), an iconic Omaha, Nebraska steakhouse that has served its community for 103 years. Earning a James Beard Award is one of the highest honors in the culinary industry, and we are proud to see our graduates upholding the highest standards of excellence.

The college mourns the passing of alumnus Marco Benvenuti ‘02. A powerhouse entrepreneur, avid sports enthusiast, and generous philanthropist, Marco was, above all, a true friend to our college.

Beyond his professional success, Marco believed deeply in the power of education and the importance of staying true to oneself. Throughout his long, courageous battle with cancer, he remained engaged with our community, demonstrating grace, resilience, and an enduring sense of humor.

The Marco Benvenuti Las Vegas Strip View Lobby stands as a lasting monument to his remarkable legacy. It will continue to inspire our faculty, staff, and generations of students.

A sweet start to the new school year 🍦

With the help of our friends at Red Bull, Spiegelworld, and some delicious frozen treats, we welcomed students to the first day of school at Hospitality Hall! We could feel the excitement in the building from faculty, staff, and new & familiar Rebels in the building.

Instead of relying solely on case studies, Professor Patty Coaley's "Hospitality Operations: An Immersive Experience" class treated the Las Vegas Strip as a living laboratory.

The intensive summer class was modeled after a study abroad experience, but set on the Las Vegas Strip. In this course, students gained first-hand exposure to the operational foundations of iconic Las Vegas integrated resorts and attractions.

Undergrad students experienced five days of on-site property visits, where they explored operational functions, including hotel operations at Caesars Palace, food & beverage at Resorts World Las Vegas, and gaming operations at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. They also learned the ins and outs of marketing, human resources, and accounting with Wynn Las Vegas. Allegiant Stadium showcased the entertainment industry to the class while MGM Resorts' event production team highlighted special events.

Welcome, new Hospitality Rebels 🌴

Yesterday, we ushered in the class of 2030 at Rebel Ready Day at Hospitality Hall. We kicked off the day with breakfast burritos from Taco Bell, highlighted opportunities available with UNLV Disney Programs Representatives Callie & Nia and study abroad, and had tips for success with our faculty and staff. To cap it off, we held a toast for our new Rebels and a start to a great year!

We are excited to see the amazing things this next cohort achieves in the Entertainment Capital of the World!
