UNLV Baja SAE - Rebel Racing UNLV SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers)

Design > Build > Test > Compete UNLV SAE has two teams with different building goals, the Aero and the Baja.

Both consist of regional competitions that simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. For SAE Aero, while integrating several engineering disciplines: aeronautical, mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering, teams are required to create an aircraft, trading between two potentially conflicting requirements, carrying the highest payload fraction possible, wh

ile simultaneously pursuing the lowest empty weight possible. For the SAE Baja, Engineering students are tasked to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain and sometimes even water.

We want to say a massive “Thank You” to Sunshine Metals and PASU Progressive Alloy. They made the latest Rebel Racing sponsored Senior Design project entirely possible with their donation of 7075 and 6061 aluminum and 4340 alloy. Likewise, they also provided 9310 stock for us and then even water jetted the material.

The parts for the radial piston hydraulic motor were machined completely from materials provided by these sponsors, making this project possible. Specifically, components such as the hydraulic manifold, rotating cylinder block, wear plates, cylinder bores, the cam ring, output shaft, and the case were all crafted with the material provided by them. Thank you Sunshine Metals and PASU Progressive Alloy! We are so grateful for your donation!

Endurance day was filled with challenges and excitement. But, it was great to see RR7 on track again in Oregon where it originally had its first race. We are looking forward to racing again soon in Rochester, New York!

SAE Oregon Results:

Endurance: 24th out of 76 teams — 26 laps total with a fastest lap of 3:49.858
Hill Climb: 21st
Acceleration: 23rd
Rock Crawl: 12th
Maneuverability: DNF
Design: 26th
Business: 17th
Cost: 23rd
