We’re now in the second week of the fall semester, which means two stellar events take place THIS FRIDAY.

The FALL ASSEMBLY is our way of jump-starting the academic year with a signature gathering that brings all film students together. This is your chance to network with other students, meet faculty and instructors, and find out about everything happening with UNLV FILM this year!

The second event is ORIGIN STORY: A Fireside Chat with Simon Robinson, President, Global Experiences and Worldwide Studio Operations, Warner Bros. Discovery. This is an INCREDIBLE opportunity for UNLV students to hear from a critical leader of the global film business who will share his invaluable experiences and perspectives.

All of your professors and instructors are aware of these events and will excuse you from your Friday course sessions to attend them.

The first session is August 27th at 6:00 pm, when we'll have a DOUBLE DOSE OF HORROR to celebrate the start of Fall 2026; we'll be screening OBSESSION (2026), immediately followed by BACKROOMS (2026).

We hope to see you there!

The UNLV Fine Arts Alumni Chapter and the UNLV School of Cinematic Arts present a screening of the film HUZ: Drawn to Life, a documentary about UNLV Fine Arts Alumnus, CFA Hall of Fame inductee, and first Black animator at Walt Disney Animation Studios, Ron Husband.

Join us for an intimate portrait of artist Ron Husband, who broke barriers at Walt Disney Animation Studios. Husband entered Disney’s rigorous training program in the 1970s, navigating high-pressure reviews, a life-threatening brain tumor, and vital contribution to animated classics.

Filmmaker James Ponsoldt was in town to screen his film, “End of the Tour,” at the Beverly Theater for the 30th Anniversary of Infinite Jest. He was kind enough to have breakfast and talk shop with some of our students and alums. Thank u, James!

SEEKING FIELD PRODUCER FOR AI TRADE SHOW

I’m looking for a solid field producer in Las Vegas. I don’t need someone super seasoned, but some doc experience required. There will be a lot of interfacing with show attendees, convincing people to spend time with us, wrangling releases, lugging a tripod, ordering meals, keeping track of our shoot wishlists as we go. It’s a tiny crew, just me (shooting/directing), a local sound recordist, and said field producer. Rate isn’t great, as I’m mostly funding this with a Guggenheim Fellowship and some grants from Temple (and most of that is gone), so probably in the range of 350/day plus meals and parking. I know, not great…but it’s just super shoestring.
