"The present seems to impose itself on us in the form of a reality that is already here. However, such obviousness deserves to be questioned. The present is not only what happens, but it is also the result of processes, choices, historical sedimentation, and visible and invisible engineering."

In a lecture on his upcoming project โ€œLa Fabrique du Prรฉsentโ€ or "The Making of the Present," Senegalese scholar, musician, author and economist Felwine Sarr examined how societies actively shape the present rather than simply inheriting it. Building on ideas introduced in his previous book โ€œAfrotopia,โ€ Sarr explored how African societies can expand their horizons of possibility by reclaiming political, intellectual, and economic sovereignty to create conditions for dignity and a collective well-being.
