Cameron University We want to CU at Cameron University! Cameron University’s history is rooted in Oklahoma’s statehood. Cameron State School of Agriculture was named for the Rev. E.
(246)

In 1908, one year after Oklahoma became a state, the Oklahoma Legislature created six agricultural high schools in each judicial district. D. Cameron, a Baptist minister and Oklahoma’s first State Superintendent of Schools. The first classes were held on Statehood Day, November 16, 1909, in the basement of a bank building while a new campus building was constructed. Cameron added junior college wo

rk in 1927. With this changed function came a new name — Cameron State Agricultural College. In 1941, high school courses were dropped, and Cameron became solely a junior college. Baccalaureate degrees were authorized in 1966 by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, following action by the Legislature. The institution’s name was shortened to Cameron College in 1971, and then changed to Cameron University in 1974. In 1988, State Regents expanded Cameron’s functions to include offerings at the master's degree level. This change in function was the first granted to an Oklahoma institution since Cameron was given the authority to offer bachelor's degrees more than 20 years earlier. In May 2004, the Duncan Higher Education Center in Duncan, Oklahoma, became an official branch campus and was renamed Cameron University - Duncan. Today, Cameron is known as the “University of Choice” and serves students from around the world. Offering more than 50 degrees through two-year, four-year and graduate programs, Cameron is the only public university in Oklahoma that offers associate, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at one site. Cameron University is committed to providing its students a top quality education with caring and qualified faculty. Small class sizes provide an environment where learning and student success are the highest priority. Cameron offers an honors program, early admission, advanced standing, a study abroad program, and college-level examination programs. Free tutoring is available in labs across campus to assist students in achieving academic success. So confident in the quality education students receive, Cameron University has implemented “The Cameron University Guarantee.” Cameron will provide additional education, at no expense to the graduate or employer, to Cameron baccalaureate graduates who enter the workforce and whose employers identify a deficiency in core employment areas in the graduate’s major field of study.

“The Cameron University Guarantee” is believed to be the first program of its kind offered by a public university in Oklahoma and one of the first in the nation. For more information go to http://www.cameron.edu/guarantee.

CU President Shane Hunt discusses details of Thursday's "Primary Function" with Tres Savage, editor-in-chief of NonDoc, and KSWO-TV's Justin Rose and Kyle Weatherly. NonDoc has teamed with KSWO and CU to televise a debate featuring the four leading contenders for the GOP nomination for Oklahoma governor.

Independent polling shows Mike Mazzei, Gentner Drummond, Chip Keating and Charles McCall in a statistical dead heat for the Republican nomination with less than three weeks to go until election day.

The four will debate each other in Cameron Theatre. RSVPs were required for audience seating, but the event will be available for viewing on a number of formats. It will be televised live on KSWO-TV, starting at 5:45 p.m. It will also be carried on CSPAN's television channel, as well as the pages of NonDoc and KSWO.

Here's one last look at Commencement 2026. After all the lightning, wet regalia and delayed celebrations, the CU grads who didn't get their degrees Friday night got their well-deserved reward the following Monday.

Hat's off to this year's Class of 2026! We wish you well in your careers. It's always a great day to be a Cameron Aggie!

The Lawton Armed Forces Day parade is a community tradition going back decades. Lawton celebrated its association with the Armed Forces – especially with Fort Sill – with dozens of entries winding through downtown Lawton Saturday morning.

Cameron University was there, too! Students and employees boarded one of the university’s buses and showed their CU pride by joining the parade and handing out goodies to future Aggies.

Here are more photos from the 2026 Commencement -- the outdoor version, that is. It was a festive atmosphere until Mother Nature arrived late with an unwanted guest ... lightning. Up until then, everyone was having a great time.

One thing about it, the Aggie grads who toughed it out, even as rain was falling, showed potential employers that they have the grit and persistence to be successes in their careers!

This year marked the 36th year that Cameron University has held a hooding ceremony for its master's degree recipients. More than 100 students completed their studies this spring for a master's degree, and most participated in a ceremony this past Friday afternoon in Aggie Gymnasium.

This year's keynote address was delivered by De'Andre Swanson, the Dean of Students at Eisenhower Middle School, and a candidate for his Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership.

For some it was a solemn occasion, but for others, a time of well-deserved excitement. These photos highlight the 2026 ceremony.
