We have been so excited to hear about all of the success from Oklahoma competitors and camp staff/alumni at National Speech & Debate Association NATS 2017! We will will post a complete list later of all of the breaks, but especially want to congratulate:

Ryan Joseph Swartz (IE division coordinator) and his student Cheyenne Martin (Junior staff) who will be competing in the final round of HI later today.

Brian Gunter and Noel Collins (IE senior staff) and their student Abigail Stewart who will be competing in the final round of DI later today!

Also, shout out to Oklahoma coach Harrison and her student Mykaela Salcido who is currently competing in the final round of Congress!!

....Jimmy Smith!

Jimmy is the division coordinator for Congress. He has been coaching for 38 years and has received a 4 diamond key and was inducted to the NSDA Hall of Fame this year! Join us in congratulating Jimmy Smith in his induction into the National Speech & Debate Association Hall of Fame! Jimmy sacrifices so much for the speech and debate community, and we appreciate so much the service he has given to the camp over the years. Jimmy is serving as our Congress division coordinator, and is just another example of the excellent quality staff you get to work with during camp. ...Lisa Barnett!
This summer (2017) will be Lisa Barnett’s twenty-fifth year serving as the coordinator for the Beginning CX division of the Cameron camp. She was a college debater at the University of Central Oklahoma, and served as a high school speech and debate coach at Bristow and Ponca City in Oklahoma before moving to Texas to teach at Plano Sr., Southlake Carroll, and Boswell. When she was coaching in Oklahoma, Lisa served on the OSSAA speech advisory committee and the Eastern Oklahoma NFL district committee. In Texas, she was president of the Texas Forensic Association in 1999-2000 and served for many years as chair of the Lone Star NFL district. She has had speech and debate students competing and placing at the state level of competition in Oklahoma and in Texas, both at the UIL and TFA tournaments. She has also qualified students for several national tournaments and had a debate team competing in the Tournament of Champions.
Lisa left classroom teaching in 2005 to attend graduate school, but has continued to stay involved in the activity through her teaching at Cameron University’s camp and judging debate. Lisa earned a master of Divinity degree from Brite Divinity School (Fort Worth, TX) in 2008, a master of theology degree from Brite in 2012, and will graduate in May from Texas Christian University with a PhD in US History.
Soon-to-be Dr. Barnett credits her success in graduate school with her background in debate. In fact, Lisa reverted to the “old-school” organization of expanding files used in debate for the organization of her research for her PhD dissertation.
