If you happened to drive by the WesternU COMP-Northwest building last Friday, May 8th, you may have witnessed something seemingly traumatic!
A mock Mass Casualty Incident was held by the Military Medicine Student Association, Wilderness Medicine Club, and Emergency Medicine Interest Group. The event highlighted important protocol for responding to mass casualties and helped prepare students for future incident response. The event was a huge success, featuring over 20 first year students participating; Levi, who has prior military medic experience; Nika, who currently works with Dr. Sorweide in search and rescue; and Jillian Pearl Manalang, who is the first female in the Navy to match at Brook Army Medical Center for Emergency Medicine! A special thank you to Amellia (president of MMSA), Olivia, Levi, and Nika for putting this event together.
Events like this are important to ground students in their 'why' and remind us all why we are in medicine to begin with. We hope to hold more events like this in the future.
Thank you to Jessica Carraway for providing photos.
