Metropolitan Community College-Kansas City is one of the largest community colleges in Missouri with around 14,000 students from across the region. MCC-Longview overlooks Longview Lake and is on land donated by the family of lumber baron R.A. The campus includes a nationally prominent automotive technology program and the Longview Cultural Arts Center (home to the Summit Theatre Group and the Kans

as City Chorus of Sweet Adelines). Hundreds attend MCC-Longview’s Flights of Fancy kite festival each spring, and the Common Read program encourages the campus and community to read and discuss one noteworthy book. The community education program includes College for Kids each summer. MCC Wolves sports programs housed at Longview: men's and women’s cross country, women's volleyball, men's and women's golf.

MCC has cancelled its Flights of Fancy Mega-Kite Festival, originally scheduled for noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 12, at the MCC-Longview campus, due to incoming inclement weather.

The college prioritizes the safety of attendees, staff and performers, and made the decision out of an abundance of caution.

Flights of Fancy, a free, family-friendly event and a longtime community tradition, was set to feature giant kites, including a windsock three stories tall and 200 feet long, along with inflatable games, face painting, children’s activities and local food trucks. Q’s: mcckc.edu/kitefest
