Congratulations MTECH students for winning record-setting number of awards at SkillsUSA Competition!

Our students delivered a remarkable performance at the 2026 Utah SkillsUSA competition, earning a total of 30 medals across a wide range of technical competitions.

They brought home 11 gold, 11 silver, and 8 bronze medals, marking one of our strongest performances to date. The competition, held March 26-27, featured top high school and college students from across the state, all showcasing their technical expertise in hands-on, career-focused events.

SkillsUSA provides students the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom in a competitive, real-world environment. Participants demonstrate technical proficiency, problem-solving abilities, and professionalism as they compete against peers from institutions across Utah.

Notably, MTECH students achieved several milestone accomplishments this year, including the college’s first gold medal in Barbering and a standout medal finish in Welding - one of the competition’s most competitive categories.

“These students truly represent the best of what technical education has to offer,” shares Clay Christensen, President of Mountainland Technical College. ‘We’re so proud of their accomplishments at the SkillsUSA competition. Their success speaks to their determination, the quality of instruction received, and the strong support systems in place at MTECH.”

The success of MTECH students highlights the college’s commitment to preparing skilled professionals who are ready to contribute to Utah’s workforce and local communities. As hometown talent, these students exemplify the value of hands-on training and the impact of career and technical education.

MTECH Healthcare Students Earn Top Honors at HOSA State Competition -

Students demonstrated their skills and professionalism at the HOSA State Leadership Conference, earning multiple medals and top placements against more than 1,600 competitors from high schools and higher education institutions across the state.

The competition was held on Thursday, April 16, and Friday, April 17, at the Davis Convention Center in Kaysville.

Students earned the following awards:
● Gold Medal - Rakhel Sandoval, Dental Science
● Silver Medal - AnnaSophia Corrales, Medical Assisting
● Silver Medal - AnnaSophia Corrales, Medical Law and Ethics

In addition, Clara Martin placed in the top ten in the Medical Assisting competition.

Many HOSA events begin with a written knowledge assessment, with the highest-scoring students advancing to a second round that includes hands-on technical skills and performance-based evaluations.
Impressively, Rakhel received a perfect score in the written test and the practical exam.

“These students represented MTECH exceptionally well at the HOSA state competition. They worked hard to prepare and it’s rewarding to see their dedication recognized through their success.” -President Clay Christensen.

Students’ success at HOSA reflects the high-quality, hands-on training provided through MTECH’s programs. Through expert instruction and real-world skill development, students gain the experience needed to excel in their future careers.

Our Civil Construction I students recently toured the Geneva Rock Soils Lab, where they learned firsthand how lab testing plays a critical role in ensuring quality and safety on construction projects.

1. Students learned about lab testing as it relates to the field. Some of the things they learned about were:

2. The Atterberg Limits Test: Used to determine how clay & silt behave with different amounts of water.

3. Gradation Sieve Stack: Determines particle size distribution to ensure proper compaction and drainage.

4. Sieve Screen: Placed into a pan weigh specific particle size samples.

At MTECH, hands-on experiences like these help students gain real insight and confidence as they prepare for careers in the industry.
