Too big to eat.

Students in Kara Donatelli’s design class at South Plains College are showcasing oversized papier-mâché food sculptures in the Fine Arts building. The project challenges students to explore scale by transforming everyday items into larger-than-life works of art.

They do more than slow you down at a railroad crossing.

These trains moving through Lubbock and Levelland are part of the Lubbock and Western Railway, transporting freight like grain, fertilizer, oil, and frac sand across the region. Short line railroads like this play a major role in Texas, moving millions of tons of goods every year.

While food prices continue to climb nationwide, the Baptist Student Ministry at South Plains College is keeping one thing the same: 50-cent lunches.

Serving hundreds of students each week, the program offers more than just an affordable meal. It provides a space for students to connect, build community, and take a break from financial stress.

The lunches are open to all SPC students every Monday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

What if the things we throw away still had something to say?

“Hemlines,” a new exhibit at South Plains College, features work from multimedia artist Kate Petrin, who repurposes discarded fabrics into large-scale installations that explore identity, community, and memory.

The exhibit is currently on display in the Christine Devitt Fine Arts Center on the Levelland campus through the end of March.
