Why that "healthy" granola bar might be lying to you. 🤨

We’ve all been there—trying to make the "right" choice at the grocery store, only to find out that the stuff labeled "all-natural" is actually packed with additives that leave us feeling hungry again 20 minutes later.

Dr. Michael Hall recently shared a great breakdown on the difference between foods that are actually good for you and the "ultra-processed" stuff that’s designed to keep you overeating.

The big takeaway? You don’t have to spend hours meal prepping or go on a restrictive diet. It’s about simple swaps—like reaching for a handful of nuts instead of a packaged snack—that keep your energy steady all day.

Check out his advice on the blog:

Dr. Michael Hall is a primary care physician located at UK Family & Community Medicine-Georgetown. He discusses the difference between minimally processed food diets and those heavy in ultra-processed foods.

It’s officially March Madness, and while the rest of the country is busy obsessing over their brackets, we have a different kind of "Selection Sunday" on our minds!

The wait is almost over. Match Day 2026 is just 7 days away, and we can’t wait to see which MVPs will be joining our Family Medicine team.

We are proud to announce the 2025 Medical Student Education Voluntary Faculty of the Year: Dr. Chase Noel.

Dr. Chase Noel completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky, medical school at Lincoln Memorial Debusk College of Osteopathic Medicine & residency with Lake Cumberland Regional Health. He currently practices in Corbin, KY where he teaches students in the 3rd year Family Medicine Clerkship.

Students described Dr. Noel as an exemplary professor who is truly dedicated to educating his patients and students. He provided mini lectures between patients, demonstrated that saving lives happens in the clinic as much as it does in the OR and ER and created an environment of growth for students.

Dr. Shannon Voogt presented this award during the 2026 Annual UK Voluntary Faculty Conference held on March 7 at the Hyatt Regency, where Zoe Whitaker accepted it on his behalf.

☕ Your morning brew might be doing more than just waking you up.

A major new study published this month in JAMA (Feb 2026) suggests that your daily coffee or tea habit could be a key player in long-term brain health.

Researchers followed over 130,000 people for 40 years and found that moderate caffeine intake is linked to a significant drop in dementia risk.

This prospective cohort study investigates whether coffee and tea intake are associated with dementia risk and cognitive function in female participants from the Nurses’ Health Study and male participants from the Health Professionals Follow-up Study.
