Yesterday marked a bittersweet occasion as we sent off four students: three from Tze-Ying Wu’s studio, Maia Smith (BM), Elisabeth Komprs (BMME), and Lila Jones (minor in music performance), and Bailey Hall (BM) from Margie Karp’s studio. Pictured here are Elisabeth and Maia. The amount of growth and the many achievements they have accomplished during their times at UK have been astonishing. We also thank them for their contributions to University of Kentucky School of Music We are so proud of them and can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Congratulations to Maia Smith on a beautifully performed senior recital featuring works by J. S. Bach, Lillian Fuchs, and Rebecca Clarke. Maia will pursue a master’s degree at Indiana University under the tutelage of Atar Arad, joining the same musical lineage as Dr. Tze-Ying Wu. We are so proud of her and excited for all of her future endeavors!

Tonight marked the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra viola section’s final concert of the year—an unforgettable evening featuring Brahms Symphony No. 3 and the Brahms Requiem. Playing to a completely sold-out hall made it all the more special. Congratulations to all the performers!

The deluxe version of UK Viola Day—UK Viola & Friends (Violin) Day—is in the books.
Thank you to Mimi Zweig, Brenda Brenner, and the Indiana University String Academy for bringing such excellence to Lexington.

Thank you as well to everyone who made the day so special—the UK violists, the University of Kentucky String Project student teachers, UK string colleagues, and all participating teachers and students. It was a wonderful event and a true celebration!

Congratulations to the UKSO viola section on a wonderful third concert of the season, and to senior student Elisabeth Kompr on a memorable final performance with the ensemble. We will miss her presence so much. 🥺

We invite you to celebrate Elisabeth’s next milestone at her senior recital on Saturday, December 13 at 11 AM in the Singletary Recital Hall. While the poster sets an impressively dramatic tone, the true impact will be the outstanding music she will share, featuring works by Bach, Bruch, and Prokofiev.

We hope you’ll join us!
