I Am VMI: Michael Ferrara ’26

"VMI is not just a college experience. It pushes you, changes your perspective, and stays with you."

Michael Ferrara ’26, a mechanical engineering major from Ringoes, New Jersey, always knew he was meant to serve. Attending open house on post made it clear that VMI would help him achieve that goal - and so much more.

From learning to work as a team toward a common goal and developing confidence in himself as a speaker and leader, to forming bonds with his brother rats and alumni, Michael saw the benefits of choosing No Ordinary College.

“I will leave with a degree that carries real value because of the honor code behind it, along with work ethic and communication skills that set VMI graduates apart. I can confidently say that this is not just true for me, but for every person who has graduated from VMI. That is something very few institutions’ graduates can honestly say.”

News from post:
The Department of Modern Language and Cultures at VMI announced the suspension of the German program with the retirement of Col. Donald Sunnen, professor of German.

A gathering of department members, both past and present, was held recently to observe the ending of the program and reminisce about the professors who taught German at the Institute since J.T.L. Preston in 1839.

VMI’s core values of honor, courage, selfless service, and commitment are instilled in every cadet from the moment they arrive on post.

Those values prepare these new service members to answer the call to serve our nation with integrity, discipline, and purpose.

Congratulations to VMI’s newest commissioned officers as they begin the next chapter of leadership and service.

The parade field barely had time to cool off. Summer session begins today.
