University of Kentucky Materials Science Engineering

University of Kentucky Materials Science Engineering Materials Engineers study relationships between atomic-scale structure and physical properties.

Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) is an exciting discipline that provides the scientific tools to manipulate matter and engineer the next generation of state-of-the-art products. Working on multi-disciplinary teams, Materials Engineers develop and improve materials and processing techniques to enable technological products or solutions not otherwise possible. Our undergraduates are well prep

ared to pursue advanced degrees and have taken diverse positions in product development, process engineering, manufacturing, quality control, lab management, medicine, and research and development. Their broad background leads to productive careers and rapid career advancement even to the top levels of management. Invention is the pinnacle of scientific discovery and engineering design, and many of our graduates have been recognized as innovators in their field.

It's the 2020 College of Engineering Tau Beta Pi and Department Awards!

Due to the University of Kentucky moving all courses online and students departing from campus, the annual UK College of Engineering Awards Banquet sponsored by Tau Beta Pi was canceled. However, each department and Tau Beta Pi has named awardees.

We will reveal department winners and honorary society initiates and officers throughout the week, culminating in the Tau Beta Pi Awards on Friday. Check back regularly!

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Eric Grulke. Although he was a professor of chemical engineering, he was a tireless proponent of the materials engineering program at UK, and joyfully mentored students, regardless of major, throughout his career. Memorial services will be held on campus this January.

Eric Grulke, professor of chemical engineering and former director of the engineering electron microscopy center, passed away Friday, November 29, at his home.
