Updates from the Chapter:

On March 28th, the Chapter welcomed 24 new members to the Chapter with initiation at the house on Rose Lane. Please join us in welcoming them to the Fraternity.

This last Thursday, April 9th, Chapter members who made the Dean's List with a GPA of 3.6 or greater celebrated over dinner at Tony's of Lexington. Quite an achievement, and a good time was had by all.

This week the chapter will complete the fourth week of a new Member Education piloted with the National Headquarters. The program takes the members from the beginnings of the Fraternity with an overview of the Founding Fathers through the changes in our modern era.

Great to see the Phoenix rising again!

Kentucky Epsilon Brothers are spending their spring break in Antiqua, Guatemala on a mission trip on behalf of Filter of Hope.

Pictured are Charlie Edmunds, Walker Mullins, Henry Evans, Jacob Buehner, Houston DeYoung and Oliver Shine.

They are installing high-quality water filtration systems for impoverished families in the surrounding rural communities and working to spread the Gospel to the locals.

Dear Brothers,

I am writing to give you an update on the Chapter after a long and challenging five-year suspension. As of Friday, February 20th, 2026, the Chapter is officially registered with the University of Kentucky as a Registered Student Organization (RSO).

Even though the Chapter had been suspended from campus, a remarkable number of young men kept the Chapter running despite not having access to the SAE House. Many thanks to Gavin Wedel, Cannon LaFont, Curtis Dom, Connor Edwards and Barrett Diebold who all served as Eminent Archons during this time.

A special thanks goes to Charlie Edmunds who is the current EA and has led the Chapter through the most challenging year. During this time, the Chapter has not been allowed to operate under any circumstances – no recruiting, official meetings or even wear the SAE Letters.

With the recent RSO acknowledgement, the Chapter has begun actively recruiting and is allowed to participate in campus events. There will also be continuing education we must complete as to the conduct and policies the university expects for all fraternities and sororities.

We have formed an Alumni Commission Team that will help guide and mentor the Chapter with both UK as well as SAE standards and policies. Serving on the team are:

Rene Perez Pennsylvania Kappa
Ken Miller Missouri Gamma (’86)
Jeff Lamb Kentucky Epsilon (’81)
Walker Lee Kentucky Epsilon (’22)
Peter Nesmith Kentucky Epsilon (’98)
Ed Conley Kentucky Epsilon (’79)
Richard Hopgood Kentucky Epsilon ('74)
Stillie Mason Kentucky Beta ('74)

I will serve as the Alumni Commission Chair and work closely with Charlie Edmunds throughout this return process.

We as an Alumni Team will not be able to do this ourselves. We will need support from more Alumni. Our aim is to strengthen our Alumni network and connect closely with the current Chapter members. We hope to see you at upcoming events.

Be on the lookout for more updates as to our progress as well as Alumni and Chapter networking opportunities.

Phi Alpha,

Jeff Neal

Happy Heavenly Big Blue Birthday to Fort Lauderdale, Florida's, Charles "Fig" Newton.
Not only did C.M. play for Coach Rupp, and the Wildcats, he went on to have an outstanding career in basketball for 50 years.
He played on the 1950-51 UK team that won a National Championship, and he went on to coach at neighboring Transylvania University. He never planned on leaving Lexington, but Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, who was the Athletic Director as well, convinced C.M. to become Alabama's new coach, and he took the job. He was the first coach to integrate Alabama Basketball. He would go on to win 3 consecutive SEC titles, and won SEC Coach of the Year twice (1972 & 1976). Later on he would go on to coach at Vanderbilt University as well.
C.M. also served on the coaching staff with Coach Bob Knight, for the 1984 U.S. Olympic basketball team that would go on to win a Gold Medal, as well as the 1992 Dream Team that won the gold.
As we all know, C.M. would later return to Kentucky, and become UK's new Athletic Director, and he played a huge roll in restoring UK Basketball to it's former glory. He wasted no time in hiring Coach Rick Pitino to become Kentucky's new head Men's Basketball Coach. During his time as AD at UK, the Cats won 2 NCAA Titles.
C.M. was inducted into the State of Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame, the University of Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame, as well as the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. His jersey is retired, and hangs from the rafters at Rupp Arena.
C.M. also served his Country in the U.S. Military. 🇺🇸
Mr. Newton on getting inducted into the Hall of Fame ... "Basketball has afforded me things I could have never gotten any other way, so I've tried to give something back. I assume that's what this (honor) is for, because it sure isn't because I was a great player, a great coach or a great AD. It must be a compilation of what I've given back to the sport." 💙

Although it became the SAE (Sigma Alpha Epsilon) House, this graceful Italianate dwelling had, of course, a story and history all of its own prior to that role and its demolition sometime in the 1960s. It stood on the east side of South Limestone, between Maxwell and High, in an area obliterated beginning in the 1970s, and now home to surface parking lots for the University of Kentucky. Only one historic dwelling is left on this side of the street, between Maxwell and what is now known as Chrysalis Court.
