Today, we're highlighting two faculty members, who published their new book, “Social, Racial, Economic, and Environmental Justice: Building Social Work Practice Skills.”

Associate professor and director of the Ph.D. program Natalie Pope, Ph.D., and senior lecturer Diane Loeffler, Ph.D., co-edited this book with the dean of Indiana University, Kalea Benner, Ph.D.

The book, created for students and emerging practitioners, provides a foundational approach to a justice-informed social work framework.

For Martin and Patsy Tracy, love was never about empty words or labels.

Their story began at a debate tournament in Morehead, Kentucky, in 1962. Soon after, they began exchanging letters. Patsy wrote 51 of them, filled with poems, reflections and references to writers who helped shape the way she saw the world.

Those letters became part of the foundation for a life rooted in curiosity, service and deep care for others.

From their early years in the Peace Corps to Martin’s global work in social welfare systems and Patsy’s work in teaching, counseling and community building, the Tracys carried that same sense of intentionality into every place they called home.

Eventually, their journey brought them back to Kentucky, where Martin served as Associate Dean for Research at the University of Kentucky College of Social Work from 2001 to 2004.

Together, Martin and Patsy created the Martin Booth and Patsy Dills Tracy Scholarship at CoSW, supporting students from rural Kentucky communities and those committed to improving quality of life through social work, research and service.
