University of Kentucky Peace Studies University of Kentucky Peace Studies is an interdisciplinary program that leverages research to figure out ways to prevent violence and promote peace.

Intro to Peace Studies is the portal course in a new certificate program at the University of Kentucky. Almost like a mini minor, the certificate only requires 12 credit hours consisting of 4 courses; PCE 201 is the portal course for the program, followed by two elective courses and then PCE 410, the capstone course. Participation in this program is offered to students of any major. Peace studies

helps students tie elective classes together in a more meaningful way and provides them with the opportunity to take classes with like minded people from different academic backgrounds. Choose to study within one of these four focus areas:

- Focus Area I: Peacebuilding. Addresses systems and infrastructure needed to create more peaceful societies.

- Focus Area II: Peacemaking. Addresses leadership skills, skills for resolving and transforming conflict.

- Focus Area III: Promoting Understanding, Cooperation, and Development. Addresses cross cultural issues, international organizations, economic and social development.

- Focus Area IV: Addressing Global and Regional Pressures. Addresses problems of population, scarcity, trade, sustainability, ecosystems, climate, and immigration. Explore the nature and causes of conflict, possibilities for conflict resolution, and the foundations for peace in this exciting new program! Another Peace Studies alum just accepted an awesome position. Congratulations, Olivia Bloss! During her time at UK, Olivia wrote an impressive Peace Studies capstone on how protest shapes legislation and presented it in DC.

Congratulations, Grace Gainer! Grace just accepted her second internship with the State Department. This time she will be interning for the Bureau of South & Central Asian Affairs.
