Greetings, UK Appalachian Research Community (ARC),

Just a reminder that the submission deadline for the 11th Annual UK Appalachian Research Symposium and Arts Showcase is next Friday, February 11 at 5pm.

This year's Symposium will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 in Jacobs Science Building. In-person and virtual options are being offered. Please see the attached Call For Proposals for specific information on the event and instructions for registering.

The Symposium is open to all undergraduate and graduate students of all disciplines from all colleges and universities doing work pertaining to Appalachia. Registration is free for both presenters and registered attendees. The Symposium is intended to foster a supportive community of emerging scholars. This year’s Symposium will provide an opportunity for students to network, collaborate, learn from each other’s findings, and explore issues relevant to Appalachian communities. Students without previous presentation experience, undergraduate students, those students seeking feedback on ongoing research, and students creating performance or visual artworks related to Appalachia are strongly encouraged to participate.

For further questions, please contact the UK-ARC Symposium planning committee at [email protected]. We hope you will consider presenting or attending!

Hello everyone,

I hope all are safe and have power. I wanted to pass along the call for proposals - due March 31 - for participation in the Engagement Scholarship Consortium conference in Athens, GA in September. This is an interdisciplinary conference organized through a consortium of land grant universities, and the whole conversation is focused on community engagement, with community partners represented and lots of practical resources available (including on ways to evaluate and sustain long-term collaborations). Undergraduates, graduate students, staff, faculty, and community partners can present. UK App Studies has participated in past conferences. Here is a link to more information about the conference, and the call for submissions: Call for Proposals - Engagement Scholarship Consortium

The ESC a non-profit organization composed of higher education institutions who build strong university-community partnerships anchored in the rigor of scholarship.
