✨Volunteer Feature✨

 is a 100% volunteer run organization that teaches 4th-9th grade girls about technology through creativity, community, collaboration, and building confidence. With their computer programming focus, it is no surprise that many Raikes School students and staff are very involved with clubs, from leading welcome activities, taking pictures, and, of course, being there to help the girls one-on-one when they have questions or run into issues. We are so proud of the time and energy our community dedicates to empowering the next generation of female coders!

SENIOR SPOTLIGHTS 2026: .lenaghan, .atarkian

We asked these seniors: What accomplishment are you most proud of from your time at Nebraska?

~~~
Alison Lenaghan: “I am most proud of the strong connections I have built while successfully balancing work, actuarial exams, and school. Managing all of these responsibilities has helped me grow both personally and professionally. I am extremely proud in the internship experiences I have had the opportunity to pursue as well as the 4 actuarial exams I have passed during my time at UNL.”
~~~

Amir Tarkian: “The Raikes School has the opportunity for students to pitch their own projects for Startup Studio to fulfill their senior capstone. This has been the most rewarding experience building a software startup (Creevo) from just an idea and developing it to where we are now with over a thousand users.”

~~~
We’ve loved having these seniors around for the past four years, and we’re so excited to see all that they are able to accomplish in the next phase of their journeys!
We asked these seniors: Why should a prospective student come to Nebraska and the Raikes School?
~~~

Harith Himdan: “The Raikes School and the University of Nebraska offer incredible connections with classmates and faculty that turn into lasting friendships and professional relationships. The program also provides strong career opportunities through hands-on projects and actual connections that really prepare you for success after graduation.”

~~~
Peyton Peck: “There is no other program in Nebraska like the Raikes School. Full of passionate, smart students, learning alongside Nebraska’s brightest will excel your social, academic, and industry abilities. My favorite part of the Raikes School was meeting some of my best friends (including my fiancé) who share similar interests in software, sports, and in life. I have never felt as surrounded by likeminded people as I have at the Raikes School. Being able to walk downstairs to my classes is pretty awesome too.”
~~~

Kevin Tran: “Nebraska and the Raikes School are one of the few places where technology, business, and innovation all come together in a hands-on way. You are constantly working on real projects that push you beyond coding and make you consider how your ideas work in the real world. Most importantly for me, the people you meet and the friends you make throughout end up being the best part.”

Adam Messman, a member of Cohort 2023 studying Actuarial Science, has been inducted into the Innocents Society, one of the oldest and most prestigious honor societies at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Since 1903, just 13 senior leaders are tapped for membership each year, selected for their superior academic achievement, unparalleled leadership, and selfless service to the university and community. 🎓

It’s the kind of recognition that doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built through years of hard work and showing up for your fellow students and community. Adam’s induction into the Innocents Society is a reminder that the work students do in the Raikes School extends far beyond the classroom.

Mortar Board is one of the most prestigious honor societies in the nation, and five Raikes School students recently earned their place in it. 🎓

Please join us in congratulating Tatum Terwilliger, Joey Shea, Lance Buscher, Maitreyi Purandare, & Bethany Thimjon on such a remarkable achievement. This recognition celebrates not just academic excellence, but leadership, service, and a genuine commitment to making an impact. These are all qualities we look for in our students, and we couldn’t be more proud of these five for being beacons of the Raikes School core values day in and day out. The work they’ve put in speaks for itself. 👏

We asked these seniors: Why should a prospective student come to Nebraska and the Raikes School?

~~~
Aaron Morrissey: “The cohort model of the Raikes School brings you together with some of the most motivated people at UNL. I feel like my cohortmates have pushed me to do some of the involvements and internship that have made me who I am today.”
~~~

Bennett Anderson: “The Raikes School offers a strong community of high achievers and the opportunity to accelerate your learning through both a well-crafted curriculum and the Design Studio program. The DS program alone was by far the most valuable professional experience I received during my time at UNL.”

~~~
Elena Belashchenko: “The Raikes School provides you with an amazing community with a great support system as you enter adulthood and begin your early career. The Raikes School teaches you crucial skills for working on product teams that I haven’t seen replicated in any other program.“
Last week, we wrapped up the Startup Studio Pitch Competition, where student teams pitched their ventures to a panel of judges for the opportunity to join Startup Studio and receive investment support.
We are proud to recognize all of the teams that participated this year. Their innovation, preparation, and commitment to building meaningful solutions were on full display:
AnglEye
Axiom
Buoy
FileFinder
Kempt
PROTO
SipBuddy
Snipit
Tuition.fyi
Through the continued support of Invest Nebraska and their matching partners, over $500K was invested to help advance student-led startups and accelerate their growth.
Startup Studio provides selected teams with the opportunity to deepen their entrepreneurial skills while receiving guidance from faculty, staff, coaches, and investors, all while earning capstone credit toward graduation.
Thank you to our judges for their time and expertise:
Mike Cassling, LaShonna Dorsey, John Grange, Pat Kerrigan, Chuck Norris, Shelby Strattan, and Jona Van Deun
Congratulations to all involved on an outstanding competition.
SENIOR SPOTLIGHTS 2026: Allan Muinov, Nathan Van Drie, Sarah Cunningham
We asked these seniors: Who made the biggest impact on your education/college experience and why?
Allan Muinov: “The person who made the biggest impact on my college career was my New Member Educator for my fraternity, Michael Ilg. As a freshman utterly unexposed to everything UNL had to offer, seeing him get up in front of us and list off countless achievements, experiences, and leadership positions not only opened my eyes to some of the opportunities available on this campus, but lit a fire in me to get involved, try new things, and maximize my time at UNL. Over the years, I’ve gotten involved in many of the same things as Michael and been fortunate enough to earn many of the same honors, but I still credit him with kickstarting all of it for me. He’s also been a great resource and source of advice as I’ve progressed through college.”
~~~

Nathan Van Drie “Definitely my parents. Despite being nearly 500 miles away and the many personal challenges they have been navigating over the past few years, they are always present and supportive. Whether it’s sending me cookies when I’m having a rough week, driving all the way out to Lincoln for Design Studio Showcase, or just being available if I want to call someone from home, they show that they have my back in so many ways.”

~~~
Sarah Cunningham: “The people I met studying abroad had the most profound impact on me and my life. I studied abroad during the fall of my Junior year when I had so much more figured out about life and myself. This gave me the chance to have a “fresh start” at college and do what I wished I would have my freshman year when I was consumed with school and had no social life. Through joining the volleyball club and being theoutgoing one, I met some of my best friends to this day and connected with them so fully. They showed me that I had a place and helped me realize my strengths.”
