Dear College of Architecture Alumni and Friends,

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Architecture invites alumni, friends, colleagues and former students to join us in honoring the life and legacy of Robert L. “Bob” Hanna (Class of 1963).

Bob Hanna Celebration Gathering
June 11, 2026 | 3–5 p.m.
Architecture Hall, Gallery
University of Nebraska–Lincoln

You are invited to join other friends of Bob for a “Share, Show & Tell” gathering and to meet Bob’s family. Guests are encouraged to bring memories of Bob to share, along with examples of his artwork, to create an impromptu retrospective exhibition celebrating his life’s work and contributions to architecture.

This gathering reflects the College of Architecture’s remembrance of Robert L. Hanna, who died Jan. 4, 2026, at age 86. A Nebraska alumnus and former faculty member, Hanna taught at the college and remained deeply connected to the profession throughout his career.

Born Feb. 9, 1939, in Ewing, Nebraska, Bob graduated with honors from Grand Island High School before receiving the prestigious Leo A Daly Architectural Scholarship to attend the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree in 1963 and earned both AIA and NCARB accreditation, allowing him to practice architecture nationwide.

Efforts are currently underway to permanently endow a scholarship in memory of Bob Hanna to support future generations of College of Architecture students.

Congratulations to Matthew Macchietto, who has been named to the 28th class of Ingram’s 40 Under Forty — a prestigious recognition honoring rising leaders making a significant impact in their professions and communities.

A landscape architecture alumnus of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Architecture, Macchietto has led the design of more than $500 million in public landscapes across the country, creating parks, waterfronts and civic spaces that foster connection, community and engagement. His nationally recognized work reflects a deep commitment to design that brings people together and strengthens the public realm.

We are proud to celebrate Matthew’s accomplishments and the impact his work continues to make across the profession and beyond.

Congratulations to Joshua Holstein, Rachel Loya and Till Steinforth, recipients of this year’s PAC CoA Prize for their collaborative project, Matrix 99, developed in the Fall 2025 Design Research Studio under the mentorship of Livia Loureiro.

The project reimagines two underutilized downtown Lincoln parking garages as a new vertical neighborhood featuring 99 housing units, shared amenities and public gathering spaces designed to strengthen community connections.

Combining computational design, human-centered planning and architectural organization, the team worked across multiple scales to create a proposal that balances density, livability and public engagement. A central promenade and fitness spine became the project’s defining feature, connecting the site while creating movement, interaction and shared experiences throughout the development.

Matrix 99 demonstrates how collaboration, trust and diverse design perspectives can come together to create innovative and socially responsive architecture.

Congratulations to Michael Mancuso, Grace Vollmuth and Haley Herman, recipients of the Harry F. Cunningham Bronze Medal for their project "Odyssey."

Odyssey reimagines the Great Plains as a hub for space research, education and public engagement through a proposed partnership with NASA. Located in Omaha, the project combines research labs, Mars simulation environments, astronaut housing and a public museum into a unified campus exploring the relationship between Earth and Mars. Through adaptive reuse and immersive design, the project positions the region as an active participant in the future of space exploration.

Project mentors: Jeremy Reding and Guy Trerotola.
