Mittelstaedt & Gentry Doctoral Symposium Each spring, the Marketing Department at UNL hosts the Mittelstaedt & Gentry Doctoral Symposium, a two day Symposium emphasizing dissertation research

Each spring, the Department of Marketing Department at UNL hosts the Mittelstaedt & Gentry Marketing Doctoral Symposium. Modeled after the Haring Symposium held annually at Indiana University, participant schools send representatives to Lincoln for a two-day Symposium emphasizing dissertation research. Participant schools include the University of Arkansas, the University of Illinois-Urbana Champa

ign, the University of Colorado, the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, the University of Michigan, the University of Missouri, the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, the University of Oregon, Texas Tech University, the University of Utah, the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Washington State University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Symposium starts with a welcome reception at the Van Brunt Visitors Center. All day Friday and Saturday morning, presentations of dissertation research are made by doctoral students, followed by comments from doctoral discussants and then by discussion from the audience as a whole. Friday evening there is a banquet, and the Symposium ends with lunch on Saturday. Participant schools are asked to pay for transportation to and from Lincoln and for lodging at the Embassy Suites. The UNL Marketing Department covers the cost of the meals and the Symposium proceedings. There is no registration fee.

Tenured faculty member Amit Saini, W. W. Marshall College Professor, professor of marketing and a leader in teaching and research at Nebraska for 21 years, was named the new chair of the Department of Marketing.

"He played an integral part in the College of Business Strategic Planning process and led the Research and Discovery Committee when we updated the plan. I look forward to his insight as he continues to help inform the college and guide his department," said Dean Kathy Farrell.

We're finalizing arrangements for this year's Mittelstaedt & Gentry Doctoral Symposium. The program and list of participants will go out next week to everyone participating this year.

Participating schools this year include The Ohio State University, University of Oregon, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Indiana University, University of Iowa, West Virginia University, Washington State, University of Wyoming, Iowa State, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Michigan State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, University of Missouri, University of Kansas, and University of Texas at El Paso.

The 2023 Mittelstaedt & Gentry Doctoral Symposium was a success. There were a lot of great presentations and discussions, and new friendships formed.

Save the date. The 20204 Symposium will be held March 28-30, 2024. Planning will start later this summer and details will be distributed later this fall.
