So Facebook had issues for most of yesterday and many of my posts didn’t go through, so here’s a quick recap of the days events:
We started our morning by having a guided tour of the Capitol by one of Senator Fischer’s interns. We were able to sit in the Senate gallery for a while, watch a Senator give a speech on the floor, and see Senator Sasse take over as presiding chair. Did you know that each Senator will take turns presiding over the Senate for one hour during the day?
After our tour we walked outside to the east side Senate steps where we were able to meet and speak with Senator Fischer for a while. We got some photos with her and had a chance to speak with her individually. I was assured that one of her staffers would be in touch to get our information so they can send us copies of the pictures her office took.
The Senator had to return to the floor for a vote, so we were able to stick around and talk with her staffers for a while who gave us some great ideas on where to go to get lunch. They were really great and had questions for the students as well.
Lunch was great! We went to a little place called Good Stuff Eatery and it lived up to its name!
We then made our way to the Holocaust Memorial Museum. Our students toured the exhibits and even had a chance to talk to two individuals who were small children during the Holocaust and survived.
After our time there, we returned to the Capitol to meet up with the other schools and the students were taken to dinner at Union Station. We then saw the hilarious interactive improvisational comedy, Shear Madness. It was a great show and the students really enjoyed it!
Attached are some pictures from the day and the student schedule for today.
They are tired but they are having fun. I do believe we are all ready to come home a rest for a bit!
