When Lexi was looking into program options at SCC, she kept coming back to Surgical Technology. The program stuck with her, and the more she learned about it, the more she could see herself pursing a career in the field.

What surprised her most was how different Surgical Technology was from any job she has experienced before. Traveling to different hospitals and surgery centers has given her a better understanding of the profession and helped her explore what she wants for her future.

“I was nervous going into this semester, thinking, ‘What if this isn’t for me?’ But I surprised myself — I love it!”

For Lexi, the Surgical Technology program is about learning how to work as a team, adapting to situations she’s never encountered before and understanding how each person plays a role in providing the best care for their patients.

One week after Southeast Community College students returned from their most successful national SkillsUSA competition, our community turned out to support that success. The 5th Annual SCC Educational Foundation SkillsUSA Charity Classic was held Friday, June 12, at Pioneers Park Golf Course. This year’s event was our largest yet, thanks to the incredible support of our sponsors, donors, and participants.

"The SkillsUSA Charity Classic just gets better every year. The support shown by our sponsors, donors, and participants for SCC students involved in SkillsUSA is incredible. We enjoyed a beautiful day on the golf course celebrating the success of our students. I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

Rebecca A. "Becky" Bauer (1958–2025) was a lifelong Nebraskan whose nearly 50-year career in computer science and technology came full circle — from earning her computer programming degree at Southeast Community College in Milford in 1977, to returning to SCC decades later. Along the way, she built a career that took her from the Nebraska Research Center to Anheuser-Busch, several colleges in the St. Louis area, and Metro Community College in Omaha. She watched the IT field evolve from punch cards to artificial intelligence. Known for being a great friend, Becky was also a devoted Husker fan, an avid traveler, and someone who cherished time with family above all.

At Bill Radtke’s second-chance kitchen, the language is part of the curriculum. No one is a felon. Everyone is a chef.

The first time anyone called Dave “chef,” he had just led a press through 140 sandwiches at a Lincoln pop up. His 15 years of kitchen experience finally lined up with someone willing to call him by what he could do instead of what he had done.
