We are still buzzing from the Beehive Design Collective's afternoon of storytelling, art, and discussion, where they shared impactful works such as the mural depicted here, which is traveling across the globe. Their presentation sparked meaningful conversations about art as a form of storytelling and the power of collaborative art in illustrating the importance of biodiversity and the urgent need to protect diverse ecosystems and species.

We are so deeply going to miss our dearest friend and colleague, Dan Howard. Even after retirement, Dan had a huge presence in our school, coming in weekly with coffee in hand, ready to make art. He and his wife, Barbara, were incredible supporters of our students, giving out annual awards to celebrate their hard work and achievements. Dan was a kind and generous man and a passionate artist, creating until his final days. We will miss him dearly and are so thankful for the profound impact he made here at Nebraska.

The School of Art, Art History & Design begins their fall Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series with a lecture by interdisciplinary artist Janhavi Khemka on Sept. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Khemka is an interdisciplinary artist who works between Santiniketan and Varanasi in India and Chicago. With her impaired hearing, Khemka looks at disability not as a disadvantage, but as a lens through which one can see, understand, and negotiate with the world differently.
