Nebraska Honors Program Alumni Connecting alumni of the Nebraska Honors Program Nebraska Honors Alumni is an official affiliate of the Nebraska Alumni Association.

The group's mission is to connect Honors Program alumni with their alma mater and each other for the advancement of Nebraska Honors and the University of Nebraska. With over 3,400 graduates since its inception in 1986, Nebraska Honors enhances the college experience by providing a challenging and creative academic program to high achieving students. Bailey Sommer, a third-year biological sciences major, said Honors has increased her confidence by pushing her outside of her comfort zone and into leadership roles that have helped her grow both academically and personally.

Sommer said that serving as an Honors Peer Mentor Leader has helped her develop strong communication skills as she helps new students navigate their first year of college. In addition, her involvement in Future Healers has given her a community of students with similar goals that not only offer her support but also motivation.

🚨Glow Big Red🚨

Brynn Hill, a third-year Biological Sciences student on the Pre-Med track, said Honors has been a transformative part of her college experience. Her time as both an Honors Peer Mentor and Honors Peer Mentor Leader have allowed her to make Honors as much of a home for incoming classes as it is for her.

Hill said Honors quickly became a home for her when she arrived on campus, and she enjoys the opportunity to be able to show others what makes this community so special to her.

Makenna Blum, a fourth-year psychology major, said Honors has encouraged her to take a more active role in her learning through discussion-based classes and allowed her to connect with professors and peers alike.

As an Honors Peer Mentor Leader and Secretary of Honors Ambassadors, she’s also found a close-knit community within our large university and a meaningful way to give back. She said her time both in Honors classes and leadership roles has increased not only her confidence but also her communication and organizational skills.

For second-year marketing major Aidan Ballard, Honors opened doors early. Through the Honors Intern Foundry, he landed an internship as a freshman and built connections that led to his current role at an advertising agency in Nebraska. He said he has benefited from the guidance of Honors faculty and community partners who make experiential programs possible. As he prepares to launch his career, he looks forward to giving back and continuing his professional journey here in Nebraska.

For Amanda Oliver, Honors is where leadership, mentorship, and community come together. As President of Honors Ambassadors and a two-year Honors Peer Mentor, she’s helped build a welcoming environment for students at every stage, from their college search to their first semester as Honors students.

With support from the Patrice Berger Student Experience Fund, Amanda also studied abroad in South America, gaining valuable clinical and cultural experience for her pre-med journey.

According to James Rasser, a vocal performance major on the pre-law track, Honors adds a whole new layer to learning. Honors seminars let him explore diverse ideas and perspectives while building strong connections with professors and peers who challenge and inspire him.

Beyond the classroom, James said Honors has helped to give him a sense of belonging. He said his time in Knoll surrounded by similarly-motivated students made him feel at home in Honors.

Tanisha Senapati’s Honors experience is hands-on by design. From working with local non-profits through the Intern Foundry to serving across Kansas City on the Honors Fall Break Service Trip, she’s had the opportunity to apply her skills and passions outside the classroom while exploring new places and making an impact.

Through programs like Future Healers and Honors Ambassadors, Tanisha has also built a strong pre-health community, developed her professional skills, and formed meaningful connections with peers who share similar goals.

For first-year Lilly Pannier, Honors means learning through experience. From small, discussion-based classes to attending the Honors Fall Break Service Trip, Lilly said her time in Honors has expanded her worldview and given her a supportive community of scholars.

During the trip, Lilly traveled to Kansas City with fellow Honors students to volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity and the Kansas City Zoo. She said that giving back, exploring a new city, and forming friendships along the way made the experience especially meaningful.

As a third-year sociology major and human rights minor, Meghan Dupre’ has used the skills she built through Honors to think critically beyond the classroom. Through her internship with the UNL College of Law Innocence Clinic, she gained hands-on experience advocating for individuals in post-conviction legal services while earning Honors credit.
