🔥 3 Exciting 4-H Opportunities Coming Soon! 🔥
We are gearing up for THREE awesome Western Region 4-H contests this summer and fall—Consumer Decision Making, FCS Skillathon, and Grill Masters Challenge!
📅 The dates on the graphics are for the regional contests, but practices will begin in June or July right here in the county. Be watching this page over the next couple of weeks for sign-up information!
👉 What are these contests all about?
🛒 Consumer Decision Making (CDM):
Learn how to be a smart shopper! Members evaluate products, compare prices and quality, and make informed purchasing decisions—just like real-life consumers.
🍳 Family & Consumer Sciences Skillathon (FCS Skillathon):
Put your everyday life skills to the test! This contest covers topics like nutrition, cooking, food safety, sewing, and consumer knowledge through hands-on stations.
🔥 Grill Masters Challenge:
Fire up your skills! Members learn about grilling, food safety, nutrition, and preparation techniques while competing to show off their grilling knowledge and abilities.
These contests are open to 6th–12th grade 4-H members and are a great way to build life skills, compete, and have fun!

🎣🐟 The results are in for the 2026 4-H Sportfishing Event! 🐟🎣
This marked the first-ever event of its kind in Tennessee 4-H, and what a success it was! Over the 8-week fishing session, we had:
✅ 220 youth anglers registered
✅ 1,201 fish logged
Perry County had 8 anglers participate, and we’re proud to share that William Flinn and Lucas Patten each took home wins in multiple categories—great job! 👏
We encourage all youth to get involved next year—this is an exciting opportunity you won’t want to miss! 🎉
➡️ New for next year: there will be two sessions offered in this program—spring and summer!
Sign-ups will likely open in late winter, so be sure to keep an eye on this page for updates.

Join our Perry County UT Extension Family Consumer Sciences Agent, Mary Tyler at the Linden Senior Center tomorrow Thursday, May 14th at 9am and Friday May 15th at 10am at the Lobelville Senior Center! Attached is the schedule for May and June. Participants will improve flexibility, reduce stiffness, and move with greater ease. There is no cost to attend; we would love to see you there!

The UT Extension Perry County office will be hosting a Summer Forages field day on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 5 p.m. at 1209 Old Highway 13 South Linden, TN 37096.
Topics of discussion are: Sprayer Calibration, Using Drones in Agriculture, and Endangered Species Act and the Pesticide Label.
All Private Pesticide Applicators will receive THREE recertification points.
All Commercial Pesticide Applicators will receive THREE points for categories 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 10, and 12 and ONE point for categories C9/LHA, 3, 4, 7, 11, 13, 14, and 16.
The registration deadline is Thursday, May 21.

The UT Extension Perry County office will be hosting a Master Beef Producer (MBP) program on May 26 and 28, 2026 at 5 p.m. in Linden. Our educational focus this year will be on Reproduction and Forages.
Class registration and completion includes a MBP Farm Sign, MBP hat, and certificate. If you need them, pesticide points will also be awarded. The registration deadline is Thursday, May 21.
