Our 4‑H agent, Mrs. Hope, has been partnering with Linden Middle School this year to bring a hydroponic lean‑and‑lower system to life in their greenhouse. In March, students transplanted tomato seedlings into the hydroponic buckets — and they’ve been thriving ever since! Students and school staff have helped water and tend to the plants during the regualr shool year. You can follow their progress in the photos.

Yesterday, Mrs. Hope worked alongside the summer school youth as they learned how to prune tomato plants, maintain healthy growth, and care for a hydroponic setup. Students also had the chance to take a close‑up look at common garden pests like aphids and whiteflies using a digital microscope — a fun and eye‑opening experience!

We’d like to take a moment to celebrate a few special highlights from O.W.L.S. Camp 2026.

This year marked a meaningful milestone, Caden Pinkerton’s final summer as a 4‑H Teen Leader. Caden first joined O.W.L.S. Camp as a camper in 2022, the same year his dad, Will Pinkerton, began serving as an adult volunteer. It was also Mrs. Hope’s first summer as our 4‑H Agent, so in many ways, they all started this journey together.
From day one, Caden stood out. He was an exemplary camper, a natural leader, and an easy choice to serve as a Teen Leader when he was old enough. Watching him grow into a confident, capable young adult has been a privilege. We have no doubt he will continue that legacy as an outstanding adult volunteer in the years ahead
At O.W.L.S. Camp, we honor our Teen Leader graduates with a special tradition: on the final night of camp, they receive an owl symbolizing their transition from youth leadership into the next chapter of service. Our hope is that the values of 4‑H and O.W.L.S. Camp—leadership, responsibility, compassion, and community—stay with them long after campfires fade. Caden embodies all of these qualities. We are incredibly proud of him, and we can’t wait to see all he accomplishes as he continues to soar.🦉💚

We also want to give a special thank you to Will, who has been there just as long and poured himself into the camp as well. They have each become an integral part of O.W.L.S camp and we hope they will return in the future!
