State Technical College of Missouri - Energy Technology Department instructors partnered with a training simulation firm in Spain to design a customized modular simulator which simulates both the operation of a power plant and the interconnection to the electric grid. Students operate the simulator which gives commands to an electric motor in place of a steam turbine. The electric motor follows the outputs of the students simulation. The motor is coupled to a generator which is connected into the facility grid creating real, controllable electricity. That is right we have the opportunity to create electricity just like in a commercial power plant!
The simulator allows the Energy and Nuclear - Reactor Operator students an opportunity at real world feel of the control operation and experience the results of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, electric flow, electrical faults and more.
