It is with great sadness that I report to you the death of Courtney Croft, Communication Arts Class of 2013, at the tender age of 33, who passed away suddenly from a stroke. Courtney was one of our brightest lights, and from 2017 to the present she worked in a variety of roles at Benedictine: publicity, alumni relations, and others. Her passing is a great sadness. I will keep you informed if I hear of anything else about her passing.

I am sorry to report that Vince Lucarelli, an adjunct faculty member in Fine Arts who taught the digital photography course for several years, passed away last night, according to his son, Anthony. Tony is an alum of the Comm Arts program. Vince served a number of different majors at the university, including ours, and his class was very popular. He was a great guy, and he will be missed.

It is with much sadness that we say goodbye to John Madormo, who is retiring after 18 years of teaching at Benedictine. Before coming to Benedictine John was a department chair and ran the radio station WONC at North Central College. He was a radio producer for Bill Berg's afternoon drive show on WGN in the 1970s, back when 'GN was a powerhouse. He was also a screenwriter. John taught Writing for the Electronic Media and Advertising Copywriting at BU since 2002, and now he is leaving the ranks.

John was always a quiet, unassuming, dignified presence at Benedictine. I remember a discussion I had with him a few years ago where he indicated a moment of self-doubt about what he was doing and how he was doing it, something that all of us in the profession of teaching have from time to time. It was obvious to me at that moment how much this quiet man was passionate about his students and passionate about doing the absolute best job he possibly could. John leaves behind a legacy of decades of successful students both at NCC and at BU. If John played an important part in your education, I hope you will reach out to him and let him know

So nice to see our old friend Kit O'Toole today, as she was the virtual guest speaker in COMM 3384 - Recoding and Popular Music in America. Kit discussed the music and artistry of Michael Jackson, presenting material from her second book, Michael Jackson FAQ. It's not easy getting a guest speaker virtually, and certainly not one of Kit's caliber. Thank you, Kit, for another great presentation!
