Phi Sigma Tau-UALR

Phi Sigma Tau-UALR Phi Sigma Tau is the national honor society for philosophy. Phi Sigma Tau is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies.

The Philosophy and Liberal Studies department is a member of this organization, allowing philosophy majors to apply to graduate with honors. The Society’s central purpose is to promote ties among philosophy departments in accredited institutions and students interested in philosophy. Both at the national and local levels, the organization of the Society is instrumental — a means for developing and

honoring academic excellence and philosophical interest, and for popularizing philosophy among the general collegiate public. Dialogue, the Journal of Phi Sigma Tau, is published twice annually (in October and April). Wholly devoted to the publication of articles by graduate and undergraduate students, it has a circulation of more than two thousand. The Phi Sigma Tau Newsletter appears at least three times annually and provides an informal means for chapter communication. Undergraduate students at University of Arkansas at Little Rock are eligible for active membership in Phi Sigma Tau if:

1) They have completed two full-time semesters of college course work or the equivalent number of course work hours for two such semesters (minimum of 24 hours); and

2) they have completed two semester courses in philosophy with an average GPA greater than 3.0 in those courses; and

3) they have an overall GPA average greater than 3.0. Students wishing to be members of honor society must submit a directory card and pay a one-time initiation fee (currently $25) to the national office. After being received into the society at the induction ceremony, members receive a certificate, membership card, and a subscription to the society’s newsletter and student philosophy journal, Dialogue. (Copies of the latter will be sent to the department and can be picked up at the student’s convenience).
